Frank M. Wagner Hospital Foundation observes National Hospital Day

The Frank M. Wagner Memorial Hospital Foundation marks National Hospital Day Sunday May 19 with a two session open house from 9 to 11 and 2 to 5. Tour the hospital including the operating room laboratory nursery and X ray while auxiliary members conduct department tours and serve refreshments. Visitors will see the new electrocardiograph machine and the board weighs plans for short wave diathermy and other acquisitions. The event highlights the hospital as a community career center with nursing programs LVN licensing since 1953 and 60 licenses issued. The board administrator staff and Blue Ladies of the Hospital Auxiliary will assist and refreshments will be served.

Carriers To Distribute Survey Cards

Postmaster Arthur Ward reminds rural patrons of the Shi ner Post Office to be on the lookout for June Livestock Survey cards. Next week mail carriers will place survey cards in sample boxes along routes. USDA bases livestock estimates on replies to this survey and urges card returns to provide a representative sample. Carriers assisting are Gilbert A. Kasper, Route 1 Edgar P. Kram Route 2 and Thomas B. Hughs Route 3. Cards will be forwarded to Cary D. Palmer in Austin for analysis guiding milk production calf and pig crops lamb and wool crops and hen and pullet counts.

Dolores Westphal earns Diamond Jubilee scholarship at Incarnate Word

Miss Dolores Westphal, daughter of Mr and Mrs Milton Westphal of Shiner, received the Dr. and Mrs S Thomas Greenburg Diamond Jubilee Scholarship for 1963 64 at the Honors Convocation May 6 at Incarnate Word College San Antonio. She is a junior Medical Records Major and will begin a year internship at Santa Rosa Medical Center in September.

Shiner Little League Seeks Funds For 1963 Season

The Shiner Little League opens its 1963 season at the new City Park field with lights and fencing nearing completion. Funds are needed for essential equipment like bases masks protectors shin guards bats balls and catcher mitts to ensure safety. Donations may be left at the First National Bank and a generous gift from the Shiner Business Men's Club has been received.

Little League Organizes Teams at Friday Meet

All players who met the May deadline and all managers and sponsors are urged to attend an organizational meeting Friday night May 17 at 7 30 p m at the school grounds. Participants will be assigned to teams for the season with games set for Monday Wednesday and Friday nights beginning June 3 with three weeks for practice.

Live Oak District Scouts attend a two day Outdoor Training Course at the Dudley Garrett Ranch Hochheim on May 25 and 26. Four Capitol Area Council Woodbadge men lead the session training adult volunteers and Scoutmasters in outdoor skills with a $3.75 reservation fee covering meals and equipment.

Three Shiner Students Named to SWT Dean’s List

Three Shiner students were among 512 Southwest Texas State College undergraduates named to the Dean's List for the fall semester. George A. Bunnoch earned superior honors with all A's and no more than one B while carrying at least 15 hours. Mrs. Frieda Schlabach Dies at 75 in Shelby

Mrs. Frieda Schlabach 75 wife of Edwin Schlabach of the Shelby area died at Brenham Rest Home May 8 1963. Miss Annabel Seifert will reign as queen of the 1963 May Fest activities in Shiner with John Dierksen as king. Her school honors include 1963 FFA Sweetheart and Football Sweetheart, 1960-61 Homemaking Queen, 1963 Editor of the annual staff, three years as cheerleader, all-district second team in basketball, four-year letterman, class favorite, secretary and vice president roles, 1962 student council vice president, Junior-Senior Degrees in FHA, and National Honor Society member for two years.

Hermann Sons Shiner Lodge members are asked to donate items for the May Fest by Saturday evening at local venues. Mrs. R. E. Tait invites Shiner residents to the 9th annual Outdoor Art Festival and 2nd Magnolia Homes tour in Columbus on Saturday May 18.
