Shiner Bicentennial events outlined for June activities

Shiner Bicentennial Committee meets May 6 1975 at the new Fire Station to plan ceremonies. The Howitzer transport from Texarkana to Yoakum is arranged with Army Reserve units and local posts sharing costs. A June 14 1975 10:00 a.m. presentation at Welhausen City Park will feature dignitaries General Butler and Col. McCormick. Ballet, dances, displays, and a Time Magazine Bicentennial issue sale are planned with multiple community groups involved.

Funeral Services Held In Shiner For Ed W. Havel

Ed W. Havel died May 10 1975 in a San Angelo nursing home at 85. Services were held May 12 in Shiner with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include wife Louise Malina and son Jerry B Havel plus three daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shiner Bicentennial plans and cemetery rules appeal

The Shiner Cemetery Association asks the public to keep dogs out or risk being shot and to avoid driving in the cemetery after rain. A Turkey Shoot is set for July 20, 1975 at 10:00 a.m. in Green-Dickson Park, endorsed by the Bicentennial Committee. The Sister City project with Winterlingen, Germany advances with ongoing plans and affiliations.

Something Special On Tap Shiner Hallettsville Game Sunday

The Shiner Clippers host Hallettsville Merchants on Sunday May 18 as part of the South Central Texas Amateur League. A 10 cent beer day with 12 oz cups and 30 cent cans plus foamers and a surprise on PA count enhances the event. Admission is 1.00 for adults, 0.50 for pre high school children, Clippers members half price. A rainout shifted Shiner Yoakum to Saturday May 17 at 3 p.m. in Yoakum, creating two league games in two days.

Local Knights of Columbus will hold a meeting Thursday May 15 at 8 p.m. at the VFW Home. The Stock-Hoyer family reunion is set for May 18 1975 at Hermann Sons Hall Shiner with invitations in process and a potluck. Shiner Troop Captures First in Blanco Canoe Finals

Troop 231 from Shiner won the canoe race at the Blanco Scout Water Festival May 2 to 4 1975. The team Earl Schacherl David Otto Tod Helweg led the finish after early delays with Blanco teammates in a seven heat final. The victory earned a new canoe and the E. B. Kinsey Memorial Trophy while Scoutmaster Ruben Vera received a farthest-travel trophy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alfred Haikenwaelder of Moulton were held May 2 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. Henry Psencik and Rev. Robert Schmidt officiating.
