Two hundred nine rural seventh grade students took exams in Hallettsville Shiner and Moulton in April. One hundred eighty met the required average to receive diplomas at Hallettsville on Saturday May 31 at 7 00 pm. Forty three rural schools contributed. graduates urged to attend the Hallettsville High School program.
Mrs. Vlasta Marburger notifies absence from May 18 to June 1 and that the beauty shop will be closed during that period. Clients may get a permanent wave before the date.

The Dr Martin Luther Church schedule lists a 9 a m Sunday school and 10 a m Divine Service with no evening service due to the pastor delivering the Bac calaureate Sermon at Shiner High School Gymnasium. Events include Friday 7 30 p m Senior League Social and May 27 Women Missionary Society. Ascension Day Service German May 22 at 10 a m led by Rev Richard Schuetze featuring a reflection on the disciples and faith across generations.
The Lesson Sermon for Sunday May 18 centers on Mortals and Immortals with the Golden Text Forsake the foolish and live from Proverbs 9 6 and cites I Corinthians 15 49 53 noting the shift from earthly to heavenly image and the corruptible becoming incorruptible and mortal becoming immortal in Christian Science services.

Jim Baros of El Campo and Julia Olsovsky of Ganado wed at Ganado Catholic Church at 7 00 am. Bride in white chiffon glow, bouquet of white lilies. groom in beige suit. They plan to reside in El Campo after a honeymoon to Galveston.
Rev and Mrs A Guyon of Markham arrived Saturday and Mrs Guyon was placed in the local hospital for treatment. Health has been poor for some time and family brought her here for efficient medical care and the hope of restoration to former health. Family and friends from several cities have visited, with two members at her bedside along with prayers for recovery.
Miss Julia Pavlicek of Kamensky wed Edward Kainer Jr at Praha Catholic Church Monday morning May 5 Rev Anders officiating. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Pavlicek Sr of Komensky. The groom is son of Ed Rainer Sr of Pine Springs and has taught at Robbins school in Bastrop. The Gazette extends hearty congratulations.
The Lutheran Women's Society meets next Wednesday May 21 at 3 00 PM. Pastor Schuetze leads the month study on Furrows. All members and guests are invited to attend.
May 16 to 24 is proclaimed National Cotton Week by Shiner Mayor Act. Richter to highlight cotton's role in the economy. The notice urges citizens to back a nationwide cotton products sales event and to promote the farm product in the community.
Shiner High School holds baccalaureate services Sunday May 18 at 8 p m in the Shiner auditorium gymnasium. The program includes processional orchestral, doxology, choir and audience invocation, hymns led by Rev. R Harris Rev Schuetze and Rev McDaniel, scripture reading, and benediction.
Last Monday Hospital day drew about 75 visitors to the local hospital. Ex-patients and friends offered bouquets as the facility resembled a flower garden. An emergency operation for appendicitis was performed at 8 p.m. on Emil Hajek Jr. A second patient, Johnny Marek, suffered a broken arm on the playground. Both are recovering well.
The Twelfth Annual Meeting of the Old Indianola Association will be held at Port Lavaca in the Court House on Sunday May 18 beginning at 10 30 a m. An interesting program has been arranged. The Cafes will serve lunches at reasonable prices.
The Jaroszewski descendants will meet at Blucher Park Shiner on Sunday June 1 for an annual reunion formerly held in Cuero. An Open House period for friends will run from 4 to 6 30 p m.
Lavaca County completes over 100 miles of power lines under Allocation B with Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative. REA reports highly satisfactory service and many rural electric fixtures recently installed. An additional 300 miles of lines, part in this county, is on file at REA headquarters in Washington.
First National Bank of Shiner lists defense bonds available to the public. Series E F and G options are offered under Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. membership guidelines. Investors are advised to request full terms and safety details from the bank.
The American Legion Auxiliary met at the library on May 12 with Mrs. Julia Wolters presiding. They approved last meeting’s minutes, reported flags ordered for graves on Memorial Day May 30, and the Poppy Sale set for May 30. Wolters elected to fill vacancy after Helweg’s resignation and members were asked to complete volunteer questionnaires. Next convention in Schulenburg May 25.
A large crowd attended Green School graduation exercises on Thursday night May 8 with a musical prelude by Marie Jo M Henkhaus Elsie Schuetze and Emil Wesselsky Jr. under Mrs S A Thulemeyer. The seventh grade formed arches for the graduates. Rev Father Beck spoke on education along with County Superintendent Wm Eilers who distributed diplomas.
Mrs Minnie Buesing wife of Theodore Buesing died Friday May 9 at 3 35 pm in Renger hospital Hallettsville aged 47 years 21 days funeral held Sunday at Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev R Schuetze interment in Shiner City Cemetery Pallbearers were Elton and Bill Buesing Chas Culak Johnnie Brosch Edmund Greive Adolph Kouba She was born Minnie Hirsch in Dixon daughter of Charles and deceased wives mother of Gertrude Walter and Oscar Buesing survived by four sisters and four brothers with one brother Herman Hirsch deceased two years ago Had lived on Route 1 Shiner since marriage in 1916 sincere sympathy to the bereaved.
The Shiner Public School Parent-Teacher Association held its last regular meeting of the 1940 41 term on May 9 1941 in the study hall. Mrs C R Larimer district president spoke on The Federated Parents and Teachers Association Followed by secretary and treasurer reports and officer elections Newly elected officers include President Mrs Hugh Koether First Vice President Mrs Thos Hughes Second Vice President Mrs Theo Dierksen Secretary Miss Edna Reischl Treasurer Mrs J W Boyle Reporter Mrs Rosanna Howard.
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Leonard Dreyer was baptized by Rev R Schuetze on Saturday afternoon and given the name Ronald Leonard. Sponsors were Carl and Miss Frances Knippa. Kenneth John infant son of Mr and Mrs Max Walla baptized in the local Catholic church.
The mails nationwide are flooded with letters and postal cards about chain schemes such as Hankie Club Apron Club Flower Club Towel Club Hobby Club. Post Office warns sending such material violates postal fraud and lottery laws and issues fraud orders to named participants to stop mail delivery. Ed Herder Postmaster Shiner Texas.
St. Ludmila's P T A held its May meeting with Mrs. Jos Michna presiding. Officers were unanimously re elected for another term. The staff thanked the group for their service. Registration starts at 1 pm and visitors may attend. The day features student work, a luncheon, kolaches and beverages, and a Seventh Grade playlet at 2 pm with commencement exercises.
At a regular meeting on Monday night the school board reorganized with the same officers elected P. R. Otto as president W. G. Stindt as vice president and H. G. Hollmann as secretary.
The Shiner Garden Club will meet at 3 00 p m on Friday May 16 with Mrs. Ernest Hajek presiding.
Bunjes School honored five ninth graders with diplomas of honor for punctuality and attendance during a Friday night ceremony on May 9. Graduates Blanche Havel Marie Roeder Doris Raab Louis Roeder and Erwin Vrazel received diplomas amid a program including songs cornet and piano solos and an address by Supt. J. M. Auld.

Severe hailstorms Sunday afternoon caused major damage in Sweet Home Mont Ezzell and Yoakum with tomato crops hardest hit. Window panes shattered poultry killed and some crops destroyed. Shiner area had wind and rain with no hail. Plainview tornado killed two people Roger Hay and his wife and injured others.
At a Chamber of Commerce meeting, Miss Frances Elaine Wagner was chosen to represent Shiner as duchess for the Yoakum Tom Tom festival on June 12 to 14. Little Dorothy Henkhaus is junior duchess, Kenneth Otto is junior deme, Virginia Ree Moore is Tom Tom Queen, with Betty Gise Cecilia Hough Rosemary Hermann as princesses and Paul Gustwick Betsy Barron as junior royalty.
The Rev Louis Blinka assistant pastor of St Michael's Weimar will be transferred this week to Koerth parish Lavaca County where he will have charge. He came to Weimar in 1939 from San Antonio and is a Shiner native. He studied at St Ludmila's Academy St John's Seminary in San Antonio and at St Meinrad's Seminary Indiana. Weimar regrets his departure and praises his parish and community work.
