The Shiner Independent School District organized its new board last Monday night. Louis Trautwein was elected President, E. J. Merrem Secretary, and J. H. Huebner Treasurer. Also serving are E. C. Merseberger, Louis Ehlers, Aug Schramm, and S. F. Nave. John Lockmann was chosen census taker for the district and begins work immediately.

S A Carnes and Son are offering spot cash for all kinds of chickens and turkeys, and buying large quantities of eggs and hides from farmers. They invite buyers to visit before selling, promising immediate cash for goods.

Frank Wendel died at his son Richard Wendel’s home near Shiner on May 9 after months of illness. He was in his 1st year and funeral was in Catholic Cemetery with Reverend Wossenkuhl. Born February 18 in Bingen, he lived with several sons across DeWitt and Goliad counties. Ten children survived along with 49 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren. His wife Cecilie Meyer predeceased him by twenty seven years.
Judge McCutchan returns from business trips to Giddings Brenham Burton and other Washington county points. He conducted interviews with many parties on the good roads system while away. A lunacy case inmate A G Merseburger is granted entry to Southwest Texas Insane Asylum San Antonio and Deputy Sheriff Munson will depart for the asylum with him.
A citizens committee at a mass meeting raised $1000 in an hour to erect an ice plant and creamery. Louis Wagener and John Kasper will study the project and request a few days for consideration. Local water facilities are excellent and farmers are improving milk quality.
Opinion notes that higher living costs could be balanced by boosting farm output. It argues increased agricultural production would help manage inflation and support households facing price pressures.
