Shiner Independent District Trustees Form New Board

The Shiner Independent School District organized its new board last Monday night. Louis Trautwein was elected President, E. J. Merrem Secretary, and J. H. Huebner Treasurer. Also serving are E. C. Merseberger, Louis Ehlers, Aug Schramm, and S. F. Nave. John Lockmann was chosen census taker for the district and begins work immediately.

Longtime Wendel dies at son’s home near Shiner

Frank Wendel died at his son Richard Wendel’s home near Shiner on May 9 after months of illness. He was in his 1st year and funeral was in Catholic Cemetery with Reverend Wossenkuhl. Born February 18 in Bingen, he lived with several sons across DeWitt and Goliad counties. Ten children survived along with 49 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren. His wife Cecilie Meyer predeceased him by twenty seven years.
