National Hospital Week highlights how hospitals serve diverse roles in the community. It shows hospitals as centers for care, technology, and emergency response, extending benefits from birth to senior care and supporting police and public health.
The St Zdislavy KJ ZT Society meets on May 15 the third Sunday due to Mother’s Day. Knights of Columbus gather May 19 at 8 pm in the Parish Gym. Catholic Nurses District II meets May 17 at 7:30 pm at St Mary’s Hall Victoria with Dr R A Stevenson on the Passion. Bunj es Home Demonstration Club hosts May 17 at 2:30 pm at Mrs Willie Draeger’s. VFW and Auxiliary meet May 12 at 8 pm at the Post Home with memorials and officer installation. Gold Star Mothers honored. Ladies bring covered dish. KJT Nos 10 and 20 to Holy Communion May 15 at 8 am Mass. St Elizabeth Society does not meet May 15.
The Junior Class of Shiner High School sponsors a bake sale in front of the First National Bank from 9:00 to 12:00 AM. Items include kolaches pies noodles strudel and cakes.
Shiner Baptist Church hosts Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 to 15 from May 23 to 27, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Registration and Preparation Day is Saturday May 21 at 8:30 a.m. Visitors welcome.
Wagner Memorial Hospital plans a new operating room and delivery room in Shiner to expand specialist care locally. The upgrades include an electro surgical unit, explosion proof lights, conductive floors, and lower patient costs by avoiding travel and hotel fees. A fund drive aims to reduce the $36,000 debt, with the board urging community support.
Miss Carleen Kram, senior at Shiner High School, was named May Fest Queen at Legion Park on May 15, 1966. She excelled in sports and activities including basketball, tennis, softball, FHA treasurer duties, SYS involvement, and cheerleading, and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar P. Kram.

Agnes B Pavliska daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Pavlis ka Sr Route 4 Hallettsville is a National Honor Society member and Sodality prefect. She edits the QUILL and CARDINAL 66, leads Student Council and teaches as NYC in school program aide. She played A team basketball volleyball and baseball and served as class president her junior year. She won second in a Regional Science Fair in El Campo and plans to attend Maryhill College of St Edward's University.

Trail Riders head to the Shiner May Fest on Sunday May 15 leaving Henk Haus Store at 8 30 a m. Everyone is welcome. Dennis Kutach son of Agnes Kutach and the late Julius Kutach and Richard Ondrusek son of Emil Ondrusek are active high school students with roles in student government and school organizations.
State Sen. William N. Patman of Ganado defeated Culp Krueger of El Campo in the May 7 Democratic Primary, carrying Victoria and San Patricio counties. Lavaca County favored Krueger, while Patman led in the newly drawn eighteenth district tally with 30,388 votes to 22,241 for Krueger.
A Social Security Office representative from Victoria Texas will meet residents at Shiner City Hall at 9 AM on Monday May 16 1966 to assist filing retirement survivor disability or medicare claims and answer program questions.
A meeting for women interested in playing softball is set for Thursday May 12 at 7 30 p m at Green Dickson Municipal ball park. All ladies are urged to attend.
The Post Office Department designates a May week for rural patrons to inspect and improve mailboxes. May 16-21 is the selected period. Boxes should be weatherproof neat and safe with owner name and box number visible. Rural boxes must be on the right side facing the carrier.
Elo Renken announces an Appreciation Sale at Elo's Grocery and Market weekend May 12 13 14 with specials in the ad and invites friends and customers to visit for savings. The Renken family includes seven children Jo Ann 13 Gail Sue 11 Linda 9 Glenn 6 Shirley 5 and Mary Ruth 10 months.
All Little League and Babe Ruth players who filed applications must report to the tennis courts on the Shiner High School campus Friday May 13 at 7 00 p.m. Managers and sponsors are also asked to attend.
Shiner Hermann Sons Lodge No 20 prepares for the 1966 May Fest at Legion Park on Sunday May 15 beginning with an 11 am family style dinner of chicken barbecue and sausage. A 2 pm program features mistress Ruth Riske coronation mistress Lanelle Kasper queen Carleen Kram escorted by Donald Zander with local and neighboring dukes and duchesses. Joe Patek’s Orchestra provides the dance music afterwards.

Alvin J. Boehm of Boehm Motor Sales in Shiner received Ford Motor Company's Distinguished Achievement Award for progressive management modern facilities and superior service to Ford owners. He also earned the Gold Car and Gold Truck Awards at a May 7 Astrodome event attended with Gonzales Motor Co. manager John Barthels. Boehm has operated as a Ford dealer since 1939 at 517 Avenue E.

Farm Bureau sponsors Citizenship Seminar Eliminations on Monday May 16 1966 at 8 00 p m in Hallettsville High School Auditorium. Three winners receive expense paid trips by Lavaca County Farm Bureau to Baylor University Waco for the August Citizenship Seminar.
The Frank M. Wagner Memorial Hospital Foundation announces Hospital Day on Sunday May 15 1966. The public may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Hospital Blue Ladies will register guests conduct tours and help with refreshments.
