On March 21 the first day of spring, fruit trees and blossoms show thirst amid a cold wave and scant rainfall. A sprinkling of rain offered hope of relief, then delays returned. A school event titled Dear Papa will be held April 5 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Ludmila's Academy Gym.
Reports claim a $100,000 payment for a 1-4 royalty on 600 acres near the Gohlke field marks one of the county's richest oil strikes. The deal was not yet recorded at the DeWitt County courthouse but circles say it is closed.
Hallettsville at Lavaca County to host state championship high school rodeo in June. Chamber of Commerce will print distribute ten thousand pamphlets with rodeo details and local information. Virgil Minear heads the committee. Walter Heye and Eli Rubin cited demand. Highway signs planned at city limits and a FC A colors float prepared for Cuero Livestock Show parade. A Sublime Rock Island highway barbecue opening also approved. paving contract for 14 miles to be let in Austin March 21.
Boundary Line School hosts Boundary Line and Kopecky Districts on April 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a school trustee election. Bunjes School in Bunjes District 20 holds a session April 7 from 1 to 6 p.m. One trustee to be elected. Michna School in Michna-Beasley District holds election April 7 from noon to 6 p.m. One trustee to be elected.
D. C. Daniel, long time Shiner native now in Alice, is lauded in the Alice News for 31 years in Alice, his civic leadership, and his work with 4-H club boys. He is vice president and general manager of the Alice Cotton Oil Company, a director of the Alice Bank and Trust, and active in Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce.
Joan Edwards, daughter of Rankin Postmaster M. J. Edwards, died after being in a coma for two years two months and four days following a January 17, 1949 traffic crash during an ice storm between Midland and Odessa. She had worked for the Midland Reporter Telegram since 1947 and was born in Los Angeles, California.
The Carr family fears a visiting wealthy friend will visit their chaos ridden home. Aunt Lucinda pretends to hear nothing to dodge a fortune seeking lawyer while Mr. Carr pursues a new invention. A Friday New York style farce unfolds with misguided answers and a $50,000 check.
The Methodist Church revival ended Easter Sunday with ten new members by baptism and profession of faith from the Sunday School. Adults joined by transfer from other churches, and the week featured programs led by Rev. Bailey and Rev. Horwood with music by local contributors. Floral tributes honored deceased relatives.
Notice invites readers to a 8 00 pm meeting on Thursday March 29 1951 at the Legion Hall in Shiner. Dr J B Johnston livestock poultry expert will address disease problems and prevention. Sponsored by Hartel Produce of Shiner. West Texans donated over 5000 to a Joan Edwards recovery fund.

Eilers county superintendent, Charles Strauss county clerk, Julius J. Mikulenko county treasurer, Theo. C. Long sheriff, and multiple constables and commissioners across eight precincts.
Washington reports the army reduces next month’s draft induction from 80 000 to 40 000 citing higher voluntary enlistments and lower Korean casualties. Officials say the cut preserves expansion plans and follows earlier reductions for May and ongoing January February enlistment totals.
The St Isidor Society will hold a meeting on Sunday April 1 at 1 00 p m at S LA. The session was moved from March 18 because of cold weather.
Brigadier General Paul L Wakefield reminds all men registered with local draft boards to report any change in personal status. Changes include address, marital status, birth details, job, physical status, school enrollment, military reserve or National Guard entry, and any army recruitment rejections. Information must be signed by the man.
The notice reminds voters of two upcoming elections next week, City election on Tuesday April 3 and school trustee race on Saturday April 7. There have been no new filings and current holdovers show no opposition. It warns that a late write-in could unexpectedly affect outcomes if voter turnout is low.
Throughout Holy Week all churches were filled and overflowed as worshippers responded to the call. Extra hours and special services were organized to divide the crowds, with many standing outside. The Spirit of His return was celebrated with choirs and organs in full song.
The Shiner Baptist church announces an all church revival at First Baptist Yoakum from Sunday April 8 to April 15. Evening services start 7:30 with song at 7:45 led by visiting evangelist Rev. P. O. Davidson born in Sherman Texas and educated at Bethel College and Fort Worth seminary. He has pastorate experience in Tennessee Mississippi and Texas and emphasizes Jesus Christ. Public is urged to attend.
The K J Z T district meeting will convene Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock in Hallettsville. All members are urged to attend and those needing transport should meet at the Catholic Church at 12 30 p.m. Sunday for a school bus shuttle.
Members must pay dues by April 1 to remain in the club for 1951 and 1952. No collection visit. leave money at First National Bank. An absolute deadline is April 1 ahead of a meeting on April 6 at 8 p.m. at Legion Park to fill vacancies.
The rain gauge of Mr. Elo Wolters shows 1.80 inches marking the first widespread rainfall since September 1950. Fogs drizzles hail and thunderstorms persist statewide, while Shiner records an Easter blessing easing drought fears. Ground soaking rain will aid planted small grains cotton corn and garden crops and may ease cattle feeding costs.
Lavaca Soil Conservation district 334 held a county meeting in Hallettsville on March 18 to decide machinery purchases totaling 35 215 dollars. No action was taken though Chairman Jerome Harbich and Secretary Theodore Golsch noted ideas from S J Janak Shiner T Reagan Ezzell and Frank Olsovsky. Harbich outlined gully erosion depleted soils brush control and siltation problems while Alois Zidek Moulton suggested buying a combine for harvesting clover seed, noting clover as key to soil improvement.
Telegrams from Guam dated March 19 announce the birth of a son to Sgt. and Mrs. Louis De Marco born March 18 with baptism naming Gregory. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Louis Erdelt and Mr. and Mrs. John De Marco. Also reported: Emil Glenn Lahodny born March 24 at Renger Hospital Hallettsville, 6 pounds 13 ounces. Carol Jean Kincaid born March 4, 6 pounds 8 ounces. mother formerly Elsie Schuetze.
