Driver license examiner hours listed for Hallettsville Yoakum Cuero and Gonzales offices. Hallettsville and Yoakum offices open Tue Wed and Fri respectively 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cuero Thu 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gonzales open Mon through Fri 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Freddie Patek, 24, star third baseman for the Pirates at Bradenton camp, dreams big as military hospital stays his No 1 fan. His younger brother Kenny, 19, a Seguin High School standout, serves in the First Cavalry Division after surviving Viet Cong shelling and a leg wound, returning to cheer Freddie on.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jim Vincik nee Vlasta Sembera of Houston were held in Shiner with Rev F E Eilers officiating. Burial followed at SPJST Cemetery. She died March 18 1969 in Houston at 52. One son Albert died in infancy. survivors include two sons Erwin and John, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.
St Paul High School will hold its annual Athletic Banquet Monday March 31 at 7 p.m. Guest speaker is Ed Messbarger head basketball coach at St Marys University San Antonio. Tickets from St Paul athletes Coach Kalich or Bennie Hybner.
The Shiner Clippers will hold a baseball practice on Sunday March 30 at 2 p.m. at Green-Dickson Municipal Park.
Mrs Elsa Stach underwent surgery Friday March 21 in Santa Rosa Hospital San Antonio and is reported doing real well. Visiting with her Sunday were Mrs Arthur Lucke Mrs Olga Smothers and Mrs Laddie Struka. Cheer cards may be addressed to Mrs Elsa Stack Santa Rosa Hospital Room 440 San Antonio Texas 78207.
The Hermann Sons Shiner Lodge No. 20 hosts its annual May Fest at American Legion Park in Shiner on Sunday May 4 with the theme Court of Remembrance.
Mrs. Aurelie Liebhafsky died March 22 1969 at 82 after illness in Shiner Texas. Funeral services were held March 24 at United Methodist Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. She was survived by five children ten grandchildren and one great grandson, and had a long record of community involvement and education.
William Brod aged 90 years 8 months 1 day died March 24 1969 at 1115 a.m. in Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum. Services were held March 25 at 4:00 p.m. at United Dr Martin Luther Church with interment in Shiner City Cemetery. A full obituary will appear next week.
State Rep. David Evans of Bexar County introduced a first time Texas Legislature bill on March 12 proposing tuition vouchers for students in TEA accredited private schools. The plan would grant the average public school per pupil state contribution, currently 251.65 dollars, to private school pupils while prohibiting use of funds for religious texts or salaries. The measure aims to equalize tax benefits between private and public education.
The St Paul Cardinalettes will host Nazareth Academy in a district volleyball game at Shiner High School gym on Friday March 28. The B team starts at 5:00 p.m., followed by the A team.
The St Paul Cardinals host two home games this week at Green-Dickson Municipal Park. On Thursday March 27 at 7 30 p m they face Yoakum St Joseph here and on Tuesday April 1 at 7 30 p m they take on Bishop Forest here.

Grandchildren pursue eight degrees with two working on PhDs at Harvard and others studying in Taiwan and China.
Funeral services were held in Shiner for Betty Jean Stewart 39 of Yoakum who died in a March 15 1969 one vehicle crash on Highway 95 seven tenths mile south of Shiner. She was employed in Houston and commuted on weekends. She is survived by her husband Dr Richard W Stewart and multiple Barr and Luck relatives. The Rev J Gordon Talk officiated and burial was in Shiner City Cemetery.
Joe Patek Jr presented awards at the Shiner FFA father and son barbecue held March 20, 1969. Rodney Spann won 50 dollars as top green hand freshman. Martin Boedeker earned 100 dollars as star V. II class. Warren Bender received 150 dollars as star junior class farmer. Awards fund vocational agriculture programs.
St Paul High School will sponsor its second annual Speech Festival for area Catholic schools on Saturday March 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Events include extemporaneous speech poetry interpretation dramatic monologue debate biology lab with a second round after lunch and duet acting. Trophy awards and certificates follow. The public may listen to any event.

The United Methodist Church in Shiner will hold a 3 p.m. Holy Communion on Good Friday April 4 led by Rev. J Gordon Talk. The service seeks solemn reverence and spiritual growth for all attendees and visitors.
Local Little League seeks about sixty boys ages 8 to 12 for the upcoming season. Eligibility requires that players be 8 by August 31 and not yet 13 by August 1 with no exceptions. Return the application to Ben Marcak or Jim Benes by April 19, 1969.
