Rites Held For Mrs Jim Vincik in Shiner

Funeral services for Mrs. Jim Vincik nee Vlasta Sembera of Houston were held in Shiner with Rev F E Eilers officiating. Burial followed at SPJST Cemetery. She died March 18 1969 in Houston at 52. One son Albert died in infancy. survivors include two sons Erwin and John, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.

Impressive Rites Held Monday For Mrs. H. Liebhafsky

Mrs. Aurelie Liebhafsky died March 22 1969 at 82 after illness in Shiner Texas. Funeral services were held March 24 at United Methodist Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. She was survived by five children ten grandchildren and one great grandson, and had a long record of community involvement and education.

Rites Held For William Brod 90-year-old Yoakum Resident

William Brod aged 90 years 8 months 1 day died March 24 1969 at 1115 a.m. in Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum. Services were held March 25 at 4:00 p.m. at United Dr Martin Luther Church with interment in Shiner City Cemetery. A full obituary will appear next week.

Texas bill seeks tuition vouchers for private school pupils

State Rep. David Evans of Bexar County introduced a first time Texas Legislature bill on March 12 proposing tuition vouchers for students in TEA accredited private schools. The plan would grant the average public school per pupil state contribution, currently 251.65 dollars, to private school pupils while prohibiting use of funds for religious texts or salaries. The measure aims to equalize tax benefits between private and public education.

Rites Held For Accident Victim Betty Stewart of Yoakum

Funeral services were held in Shiner for Betty Jean Stewart 39 of Yoakum who died in a March 15 1969 one vehicle crash on Highway 95 seven tenths mile south of Shiner. She was employed in Houston and commuted on weekends. She is survived by her husband Dr Richard W Stewart and multiple Barr and Luck relatives. The Rev J Gordon Talk officiated and burial was in Shiner City Cemetery.

St Paul Hosts Catholic Schools Speech Festival

St Paul High School will sponsor its second annual Speech Festival for area Catholic schools on Saturday March 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Events include extemporaneous speech poetry interpretation dramatic monologue debate biology lab with a second round after lunch and duet acting.
