Shi nex High School hosts a Friday night one act play contest with four classes presenting distinct works. Seniors perform The Turkey Stealing Case of Watermelon County, a negro farce. Juniors stage The Dearest Thing in Boots. Sophomores offer The Woozy Party's Political Rally. Freshmen present Boss For a Week in the gym.
The program lists Fort Worth area religious services for a three day Forty Hours Devotion. Opening High Mass at 10:30 Sunday with 2 pm to 6 pm confessions and an English sermon at 8 pm. Monday features Masses at 7 and 10, German sermon, Czech devotion at 8 pm, and confessors available after each service. Tuesday closes with Communion at 10, a procession with the Blessed Sacrament, and a large priest confessional capacity. Collection supports devotion expenses. Rt Rev Mons L P Netardus and Rev E J Bily preside.
The church invites worshipers to meet Christ in Lent with services next Sunday in the morning and evening. Lent services will be held on Friday nights at 8 30 o clock p m. A C Peterson is the pastor and extends a welcome to all to attend.

A former high school faculty member died of a heart attack. Lola Denny Ellison Pohler, born April 11, 1906 in Pauls Valley Oklahoma, died March 18 after a heart attack following a hospital return. She studied at San Marcos High School and earned MA degrees from Southwest Texas Teachers College and the University of Texas. She taught ten years, served seven years on Taft High School faculty, was Worthy Matron of the local Eastern Star, and married Edwin H. Pohler on July 9, 1930. A daughter Leta Joanne arrived Feb. 13. Services were held at the local Baptist Church with burial in Taft Cemetery. survivors include her husband.

Shiner Texas Lavaca County issues a notice of election for April 6 1943 to elect a mayor city secretary and three aldermen for two years. Polls run 8 am to 6 pm at the new city hall. Presiding judge F R Mergenthaler appointed. candidates must file ten days before election. City clerk attests seal and official notice.

Mrs August Hartmann nee Christina Pnilsson born October 31 1884 in Sweden died March 18 at 12 30 am aged 58 years four months and eighteen days funeral March 22 at 3 pm from family home to United Lutheran Church Shiner with Rev R Schuetze officiating interment Shiner City Cemetery survivors include husband two sons Pvt Alfred Hartmann Salt Lake City Pvt Aug Hartmann Jr La daughter Mrs Jim Fall Jr and one sister Mrs Edmund Pfeil along with one grandchild and several nephews served as pallbearers. final tribute to a devoted wife mother and Christian woman.
Mrs. Fannie Rice Tucker, 58, a retired nurse and wife of Leonard Tucker, was killed instantly at 4 30 p m when a passenger train struck her car in Yoakum. She was from a pioneer family. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Survived by widow Sophie Trautwien two daughters and a grandson. Funeral services were held with Masonic rites and interment in Shiner City Cemetery.
The blessed Virgin society will hold their meeting on Sunday March 27 after the second Mass.
