Vaudeville Revue Tickets Remain for GASLIGHT THEATRE

Tickets are still available for the Vaudeville revue at the Gaslight Theatre on March 25 26 and 27. Call 594-2313 or 594-2021 to reserve seats in Shiner Texas. The Gay Nineties evenings feature vaudeville acts a barbershop quartet dances sketches recitations a minstrel team and a melodrama. Tickets cost 150 for adults and 100 for students with 8 PM curtain.

Little League To Choose Teams March 28

The Shiner Little League will select players on Monday March 28. Registration for minor and major league teams starts at 6 30 p.m. Player selection begins at 7 00 p.m. Insurance and registration fee is 2 50 per player. Mark the date on your calendar.

A Social Security Administration representative from Victoria Texas will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 AM on Monday March 21 1977. Claimants for retirement survivor disability or Medicare benefits may meet him and get assistance with the program and related questions.

Shiner Rotary hears Fayette Power Project talk

Rotary meeting at Casa Fiesta on March 16 with Vice President Robert Sterling presiding. Richard Hammonds offered the prayer as Rotarians and guests from San Antonio Hallettsville and Fayette County listened to W Sue McFarland about the Fayette Power Project near La Grange. Project aims to supply energy for LCRA and Austin with unit one due 1979 and unit two in 1980. Tours can be arranged.

Rabies Vaccination Drive Planned by Vogt Hospital

The Vogt Animal Hospital of Yoakum announces a rabies vaccination drive for country dogs and cats on Saturday March 26. Dr Vogt will operate at Midway Cash Store 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Blase's Place 2:15 to 3:00 p.m. McCord's Store at Sweet Home 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. The vaccination fee is $4.00.

Driver Perishes In Interstate Bread Oil Collision

San Antonio truck driver Humberto Raul Perez Sr., 27, died in a 3:30 a.m. crash on U S 77 A and Texas 95 near Yoakum. He was delivering Rainbo Bread when his eastbound rig struck a northbound oil tanker, the trailer jackknifed, and the tractor crossed into adjoining land. The other driver Leon Ervin, 44, escaped with minor injuries. inquest was held and Perez was transported to funeral homes in San Antonio.

Fire damages Schreiber home in Shiner

A fire at the brick residence of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Schreiber located at Ave B and 16th St in Shiner caused severe damage. The blaze started in the double garage about 5 00 am on Monday March 21 and destroyed the garage and its contents including two cars. The Shiner Fire Department arrived at 5 15 am and contained the fire to the garage and attic but the home suffered heavy smoke and water damage and extensive roof damage. Cause is undetermined.

Lavaca County Included In Area Highway Improvement Projects

Lavaca County roads will receive seal coat work as part of the 1977 Highway Safety and Betterment and Farm to Market Road Improvement Program approved by the State Highway and Public Transportation Commission. The 35.3 mile Lavaca segment covers US 77 US 90A FM 1295 and FM 2437 with an estimated cost of 158000 dollars. statewide the program plans 4665 miles of improvements costing just over 40 million dollars with additional funds for right of way and later assignments.

Rev Wesselsky Honored On Anniversary

The Rev. Emil Wesselsky was honored by his parents with a chicken barbecue at their Shiner home on Friday March 18 1077 marking the twenty first anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Father Emil serves at St John’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. Present were his parents and several relatives and friends.

Fire Marshal Alois Herman lists calls for the Shiner Volunteer Fire Department from Feb 16 to Mar 21. Incidents include Sulphur Park trailer home, several grass fires at Kram farm Johnsons Ranch Wendtland Meyer and a track fire near Migl's Store and Yoakum highway, plus a Gilbert Schreiber house fire.
