Driver Perishes In Interstate Bread Oil Collision
San Antonio truck driver Humberto Raul Perez Sr., 27, died in a 3:30 a.m. crash on U S 77 A and Texas 95 near Yoakum. He was delivering Rainbo Bread when his eastbound rig struck a northbound oil tanker, the trailer jackknifed, and the tractor crossed into adjoining land. The other driver Leon Ervin, 44, escaped with minor injuries. inquest was held and Perez was transported to funeral homes in San Antonio.

Fire damages Schreiber home in Shiner
A fire at the brick residence of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Schreiber located at Ave B and 16th St in Shiner caused severe damage. The blaze started in the double garage about 5 00 am on Monday March 21 and destroyed the garage and its contents including two cars. The Shiner Fire Department arrived at 5 15 am and contained the fire to the garage and attic but the home suffered heavy smoke and water damage and extensive roof damage. Cause is undetermined.

Lavaca County roads will receive seal coat work as part of the 1977 Highway Safety and Betterment and Farm to Market Road Improvement Program approved by the State Highway and Public Transportation Commission. The 35.3 mile Lavaca segment covers US 77 US 90A FM 1295 and FM 2437 with an estimated cost of 158000 dollars. statewide the program plans 4665 miles of improvements costing just over 40 million dollars with additional funds for right of way and later assignments.
