Shiner Business Men's Club Meets Tonight at 7

The regular meeting starts with a 7 o'clock luncheon served by the Senior Luther League in Luther Hall. After lunch A d H Kaspar will present the discussion topic School Consolidation. Supt Barron of Yoakum will be guest speaker. Some members owe March dues. come prepared to pay.

Legion Auxiliary Meets In Regular Session At Library

The American Legion Auxiliary met March 15 at the library with eleven members present. Acting secretary Mrs. A B Schultz filled in. A motion passed to pay all bills. Lunch fundraiser yielded $14.00. Discussion covered Child Welfare and aiding needy children at Shiner High and St Ludmila schools with tabs and pencils. Members urged to attend the March 19 district convention at LaGrange.

Methodist Aid Society Plans Tea and Parcel Post Sale

On March fifteenth the Methodist Aid met at Mrs. R B Kroulik's home with Mrs. W H Plageman presiding. The treasurer reported $117.20 on hand. Members addressed new members and the ill list. A tea and parcel post sale was set for April nineteenth in the Blohm building. Gas, light and wood bills for the church were approved for payment and gas to be cut during summer. The lesson by Mrs Wm Wendtland Jr. was praised. Guests included Mesdames A F Brosch Alfred Brosch and Joe Kaspar. Mrs Arthur Kaspar joined as a new member. Silver offering was $3.90. Next meeting with Mrs Ed Herder.

Remains Shipped for Interment of Local Resident Michalik

The remains of Ondrej Michalik who died at the local hospital Saturday night were shipped to Blessing for interment. He was a resident of Palacious, aged 47 years, three months and seventeen days.

Rain Storm Strikes South Texas Causing Damage and Falls

A severe electric storm with rain hail and strong northwesterly winds hit Victoria Texas and surrounding areas early Sunday shattering windows uprooting trees and blowing down poles. Most damage occurred south of Victoria toward Pleasant Green and Crescent Valley with hail as large as hen's eggs reported in Port Lavaca. The storm extended north to Yoakum and south to Alice. Roofing was stripped from the Victoria Theatre as lines and poles were blown down.

Additional Mail Service for Shiner Matches St Patrick Day Plan

The notice announces new mail services for Shiner with two routes. South No 265 serves Yoakum Cuero Kennedy Victoria Westhoff San Antonio and areas west of San Antonio, with collection by 8 40 a m and departure at 9 00 a m daily except weekends. North No 266 serves Moulton Flatonia east to Houston west to San Antonio Dallas Fort Worth and other northern cities, with office by 7 00 p m and departure at 8 30 p m daily except weekends. The service supplements day trains and cautions patrons not to mail letters on trains for these routes.

Glee Club of SW Texas State Teachers College to Perform

The Men's Glee Club from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos appears in a secular concert at the High School Auditorium next Saturday night March 25 at 8 oclock. Admission is free and the public is urged to attend.

Annual Twentieth Century Club Social Meeting Highlights

On March 15 members of The Twentieth Century Club hosted their husbands and guests at Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Welhausen’s home. The event featured purple and gold decor and 42 games with refreshment of punch cake and sandwiches. Mrs. E. G. Buske won the club ribbon for high among members, while Mr. Edgar Wolters earned high among guests and Mr. Adolph Richter took the booby.

Father of Frank Rubin and Harold Rubin Dies in Czechoslovakia

Frank Rubin received word his father Jacob Rubin died March 6 in Czechoslovakia at 72. He had not seen him in 25 years. Surviving are three brothers and one sister in Czechoslovakia. Frank and Harold reside in Shiner. The Gazette extends sympathy to the family.

March 20 The Florida State prison ended Giuseppe Zangara's life as he died in the electric chair after a failed attempt to kill President Roosevelt in Miami on February 15 The condemned man proclaimed he would try to kill Roosevelt again if released and shouted against capitalists before his death four physicians testified his brain was normal Zangara's attack on Cermak the Chicago mayor was the tragic counterpoint to the broader assassination drama.

Limit to Return Hoarded Gold Set Now for March 27

Washington reports the Federal Reserve Board extended the deadline to March 27 for submitting names of individuals who drew gold without redepositing it. The original cutoff expired last Friday. A steady stream of gold has flowed into Federal Reserve Banks since the antihoarding act and the hoarder notices were issued. Treasury officials say by March 15 a total of 327 million dollars had been received.

Washington reports the beer bill for 3.2 percent beer and wine was ready for the White House but blocked by a technicality until Wednesday due to Vice President Garner's signature. The conference report was swiftly adopted by the House and approved by the Senate, with President Roosevelt ready to sign once Garner affixes his name.
