Red Cross Drive Urges Lavaca County Help and Quota

The 1951 American Red Cross drive is underway in Lavaca County with a $2400 quota. County chairman E. S. Kelly says rural districts lack volunteers, urging donations to reach Chapter Headquarters. Lee J. Sedimeyer is the local chairman as solicitors seek a quick, successful campaign.

Visits Again After 53 Years Reunites Spokane man with Gazette

Will Simpson of Spokane revisits the Gazette office after a 53 year absence. A former 1898 employee of J. C. Haber macher, he has since held roles across the nation and is a retired postmaster traveling with his wife from Mexico City to Florida. He met with former vice President John Garner in Uvalde and showed photos with Garner and Farley.

Shiner Schoolboard Meets Adjacent Districts on Education Outlook

March 15 meeting brought Shiner School board together with trustees from Bunjes Boundary Line Beasley Evergreen Green Charlottenburg Mount Olive to discuss annexation and consolidation. They stressed not destroying small schools and urged study with local boards before county action. Citizens urged to voice wishes. Mount Olive may be annexed to Shiner if rules require.

Mrs. Mary Kral Last Rites Held

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Kral on Saturday after a long illness. The Shiner Catholic rites included Requiem High Mass and a family-led rosary. Survivors include son Ernest and four daughters, plus 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was 68.

F.F.A. 4-Hers Take Honors at South Texas Livestock Show

The Shiner community earned several ribbons and sales at the Cuero event March 15 16 and 17. Oren Remmers and Joe Patek Jr both exhibited 820 pound Hereford steers winning fourth and third premiums respectively and selling to local buyers. Multiple hogs lambs and a capon earned blue and red ribbons with sales to Cuero Halettsville Jackson Implement Co and others. Grand champions included steer by Lee Roy Schreeder hog by Robert Geisler lamb by Billy Ryan and capon by Buzzy Dietze with buyers named. The club boys thank buyers and especially the Shiner Chamber of Commerce for backing.

Baptist Revival At Shiner Church This April

An all church revival at Shiner Baptist Church runs from Sunday April 8 through Sunday April 15. Visiting evangelist Rev. P. O. Davidson of First Baptist Church Yoakum will lead each evening prayer meetings at 7 30 and song service at 7 45. Public invited to attend all services.

Ford Tractor School Held at City Hall

The Boehm Tractor and Auto Sales hosted Ford tractor owners at City Hall on Monday evening with attendance prizes. Harry Bryant District L Supervisor and Arno Rudolf Ford dealer attended, and the group viewed the technicolor film Waves of Green. The Veterans Class of about 160 attended an afternoon showing. refreshments were served. All businesses close Good Friday at noon until 3 pm and Easter Monday is an all day holiday. Housewives are warned about March 24 closures.
