Felix Pavlas 73 Dies at Moulton Home

Felix Pavlas aged 73 years 9 months 11 days father of Mrs John Roeder died at his home near Moulton on Monday March 16 at 2 10 am Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 am at the Moulton Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved survivors.

Draft Lottery March 17 Set To Begin At Five

Washington officials announce the draft lottery will start at 5 p.m. local time on March 17 to determine the order of liability for military service of about 9 million men who registered February 16. Secretary Stimson may draw the first capsule. President Roosevelt will not attend. All February 16 registrants aged 20 to 44 who had not registered before are being assigned serial numbers.

A circulated letter urges all citizens to register for War Rationing Booklets Number One on national dates. The March Term grand jury reports to Judge Lester Holt of the 25th Judicial District a single felony indictment. Lavaca County plans a public memorial marker on the wreck site near Hope to honor six young soldiers who died in the plane crash last Wednesday night. Six Men Die As bomber Crashes Near Hope

Six men were killed last Wednesday night when a B 25 bomber crashed about three quarters of a mile north of Hope in the M E Jacobs pasture. The crew included Second Lieut D W Bradford pilot Second Lieut R C Hockings co pilot First Lieut A M Johnston Master Sgt G Frazer Technical Sgt F Ricks and Sgt Stanley Smith. Witnesses said engine trouble and landing flares preceded the crash which exploded burning for miles. The Duncan Field based plane was en route to Esler Field Louisiana.

Texas taxpayers pay 42 million in 1941 income taxes

Austin reports from the Internal Revenue Department officials that Texans in the southern part of the state paid 42 million dollars in income taxes for 1941, up from 15 million the previous year.

President Roosevelt directed Douglas MacArthur to transfer headquarters from the Philippines to Australia as supreme commander of Allied Forces in the southwest Pacific. Shiner High School P T A Holds March Meeting

The Shiner High School P T A met in regular session in the gym on Thursday March 12 at 4 45 pm. Members expressed interest in a Procedure Course and willing to take it. Mayor Richter was to speak but Mr Williams substituted. Williams is a Texas fire-prevention advocate touring towns to teach fire hazards and safety. The group will meet again April 9 with Dr Boyle speaking on Family and Community Health.

Lagrange March 12 indicates the South Central Texas League will conduct a 15 game slate from March 1 to May 12. Private Phillip Baros at Fort Sam Houston Hospital remains in serious condition after being found unconscious at Dodd Field when a part of his wind pipe was removed by an unknown assailant. He receives daily blood transfusions as his visitors include family members and local acquaintances.
