Director H C Cammack leads the High School Band with the High School Choral Club in a free public concert Sunday at 4 PM in the school gymnasium. All are invited to attend.
Felix Pavlas aged 73 years 9 months 11 days father of Mrs John Roeder died at his home near Moulton on Monday March 16 at 2 10 am Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 am at the Moulton Catholic Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved survivors.
A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Anton J Koncaba Jr on March 17. Mr and Mrs A H Koudelka are the parents of a baby boy born at the local hospital on Tuesday.
Mary Lee Fietsam expresses sincere thanks for beautiful flowers cards and messages during a recent hospital stay. She extends special thanks to Father Bily, the doctors and nurses for their kindness.
The local hospital lists current patients including Mrs A H Koudelka and baby Engle Joe Schleinschock Dilworth August Novak Eddie Hinci Mrs H P Schaefer Mrs Adolph Zander Shiner. Dismissed patients are Stanley Cernosek Jr Mrs Ed Hans and baby Mrs Stanley Cernosek and baby Moulton Mrs Frank Luksovsky and baby Flatonia.

Services announced for Shiner Baptist Church include Sunday School at 10 a m with Thomas Hughs, Morning Worship at 11 a m, Sunday Night Training and Preaching at 8 p m, and Midweek Prayer on Wednesday night. Rayford Harris serves as pastor and invites all to attend.
Henry C. Nickel, pastor of the Lutheran church, conducts services every second and fourth Sunday of the month. Visitors are welcome.
H S coach Ellis will display his 1942 Comanches in their opening game Tuesday afternoon at 4 oclock on Fissler Field. They meet Gonzales Apaches, last year’s South Central High School League champions, with the Sweetheart of the Baseball Squad to be crowned and the Band to perform.
Shiner friends learn that Erwin Bartosch has been promoted to corporal and transferred to Gainesville after 11 months at Abilene. Monroe Proschko at Kessler Field Mississippi also earns corporal while Louis Dusek at Camp Barkley Texas becomes mess sergeant.
Washington officials announce the draft lottery will start at 5 p.m. local time on March 17 to determine the order of liability for military service of about 9 million men who registered February 16. Secretary Stimson may draw the first capsule. President Roosevelt will not attend. All February 16 registrants aged 20 to 44 who had not registered before are being assigned serial numbers.
The Guadalupe Valley District Dental Society held an 8:00 PM Saturday meeting at the Shiner Clinic. After the business session, members enjoyed refreshments at Meyer's Cafe. The Ladies Auxiliary met at Mrs. A. A. Darilek home and served delicious refreshments.
B J Novak of the U S Navy came back to Norfolk Virginia on Tuesday after spending time by his mother's bedside during her illness.
At the local P T A gathering in the High School Gym Thursday, Frank Williams Texas Firemen and Fire Marshals Ass'n state representative spoke. Yoakum Fire Department Chief Hanna and local leaders Mayor Richter and Fire Marshal Ed Herder attended. Herder gave an engaging talk.
A circulated letter urges all citizens to register for War Rationing Booklets Number One on national dates. It warns that booklets are general rationing tools, not sugar only, and emphasizes registering to obtain any future rationed goods. Citizens with excess sugar are told to return it to stores.

The March Term grand jury reports to Judge Lester Holt of the 25th Judicial District a single felony indictment. They note well kept courthouse jail and poor farm except one fire extinguisher at the poor farm, commend county finances, urge review of building fire insurance, and call for ending minor loitering in saloons and pool halls.
Lavaca County plans a public memorial marker on the wreck site near Hope to honor six young soldiers who died in the plane crash last Wednesday night. Co Chairs Henry Paulus Yoakum L E Denmark Shiner Vlad Boehm Moulton and Hallettsville organizer Erwin Bucek urge patriotic contributions via the County Judge or editors.
Six men were killed last Wednesday night when a B 25 bomber crashed about three quarters of a mile north of Hope in the M E Jacobs pasture. The crew included Second Lieut D W Bradford pilot Second Lieut R C Hockings co pilot First Lieut A M Johnston Master Sgt G Frazer Technical Sgt F Ricks and Sgt Stanley Smith. Witnesses said engine trouble and landing flares preceded the crash which exploded burning for miles. The Duncan Field based plane was en route to Esler Field Louisiana.
Austin reports from the Internal Revenue Department officials that Texans in the southern part of the state paid 42 million dollars in income taxes for 1941, up from 15 million the previous year.
The annual meeting of Bunjes school patrons is set for Thursday night at 8 o'clock. Community members are invited to attend and discuss school matters and upcoming events.
President Roosevelt directed Douglas MacArthur to transfer headquarters from the Philippines to Australia as supreme commander of Allied Forces in the southwest Pacific. MacArthur, Mrs MacArthur, and key staff traveled to Australia where his new command includes Philippine islands and American ground troops and air units.
The Shiner Garden Club will meet at the home of Mrs. O A Kosler on March 20 at four o clock.
High School seniors rehearse for the Thursday April 9 performance in the gym. The comedy, a James Parker piece, promises a true-to-life, witty presentation.
The Shiner Independent School District board orders an election at the new City Hall in Shiner on April 4, 1942, to elect two school trustees. F R Mergenthaler is appointed as the qualified voter to run the election per the law. Paul R Otto, President, with H G Hollmann, Secretary, attesting.

The Shiner High School P T A met in regular session in the gym on Thursday March 12 at 4 45 pm. Members expressed interest in a Procedure Course and willing to take it. Mayor Richter was to speak but Mr Williams substituted. Williams is a Texas fire-prevention advocate touring towns to teach fire hazards and safety. The group will meet again April 9 with Dr Boyle speaking on Family and Community Health.
The likeness depicts Dr Bartak who is now confined to a prison camp in Germany. He was in Prague when war was declared.
Lagrange March 12 indicates the South Central Texas League will conduct a 15 game slate from March 1 to May 12. Teams include Schulenburg, Flatonia, Gonzales, Moulton, Shiner, New Braunfels, and others with Marshall Holloway as schedule director. Extensive game-by-game dates follow from March 24 through May 12.
Private Phillip Baros at Fort Sam Houston Hospital remains in serious condition after being found unconscious at Dodd Field when a part of his wind pipe was removed by an unknown assailant. He receives daily blood transfusions as his visitors include family members and local acquaintances.
A Bunco party will be held at Boundary Line School Thursday March 19 at 8 30 p m by the Community Home Demonstration Club. A quilt will be given away. Admission 10 cents for playing and lunch.

The Mayor of Shiner Texas Lavaca County orders an election on April 7 1942 to elect Aldermen for two years. Voting runs from 8 a m to 6 p m at the new City Mall. Names of candidates appear on the mayoral proclamation with the seal.
