The 4th century council at Nicaea settled it as the first Sunday after the vernal full moon, with calendar reforms causing ongoing shifts between Julian and Gregorian systems.
The guest Lenten speaker at the Methodist Church on Wednesday March 21 at 7 30 p m will be Rev Jess Mothersbaugh of Schulenburg. He will deliver an inspirational and spiritually uplifting message. Public cordially invited.
The Kolar Staken Post No. 201 American Legion met on February 27 with Commander Lonnie Koenning. James D. Rothermel praised the post and presented a citation for all time high membership by December 31, 1961. W F Taylor commended the post on membership and community service before a stew was served.
A small group of entertainers performs songs rhymes and dances at the high school gym at 7 30 p m The Rhythm Band presents a concert and a square dance Free will offering funds school supplies for the students.
August Kubecka senior, patient at De Tar Hospital in Victoria Texas since March 3, underwent major surgery last Thursday. His condition is reported as very good and friends may mail him at room 17 De Tar Hospital Victoria Texas.
The Parent-Teacher Association invites the public to a Mexican supper March 24 at the Public School Cafetorium and Gym. Menu includes tamales Spanish rice slaw beans pie and coffee or tea served from 6:00 p.m. Prices: 75c adults 35c band and elementary students 60c 7th grade through high school. At 8:00 p.m. the High School Band and Jr. Band directed by Joseph Kirk perform. Proceeds help defray band uniforms debt. Free will donation at the door.
On Sunday March 18 at 10:45 worship hour Holy Communion will be observed for the last time in the old church as it is gradually closed. A large number of communicants is expected to attend this reverent service and recall sacred memories.
The Board of Directors offers season tickets at 2.50 each for all seven Clipper home games. Members announce tickets are now available to supporters and the public.
Anton Pustejovsky of Schulenburg died March 3 1962 at Youens Hospital Weimar after a five day illness. He was 77 years old born December 26 1884 in Moravia son of Charles and Antonia. He married Annie Hollub January 9 1911 and farmed near Moulton. Funeral March 5 at Schwenke Baumgarten Chapel with interment Schulenburg City Cemetery. He is survived by wife, daughter Evelyn Nix, six brothers and four sisters and two grandsons.
In Texas, Paul Stock No. 1 in Lavaca County ran to 9,465 feet on a 14 000 foot Edwards permit about 12 miles north northeast of the Word Field tests. In Fayette County Sohio No 1 M L Briscoe and No 1 Hugh Taylor reported acidizing and flowing liquids from perforations with depths near 12 075 and 12 242 feet. Harkins Co Alice No 1 William Zappe Jr in Gonzales County was drilling at 10 888 feet on a 12 500 foot Edwards wildcat southeast of Gonzales city.
The Shiner Clippers announce their first practice of the 1962 season for Sunday March 18 at 2 p.m. All interested players should attend or contact Robert Bubolz or Ben Marcak before Sunday. Roster limited to 18 players under SCTAL rules.
Lavaca County ranks 164th in Texas for prisoners sent to the state penitentiary over the 40 year span from 1920 to 1959. A study by Dr. R C Keeninger of Sam Houston State Teachers College found 129 Lavaca County commits, with a rate of 5.41 per 1000 population, among 245 counties.

Large crowds attend the Shiner Public School P-TA meeting during Public School Week. Plans for the April 28 29 Flower Show Parade of Holidays and a Mexican Supper before the March 24 band concert were announced. A nominating committee was formed and NHS pins will be bought. Visitors toured displays and student council served cookies and coffee.
The Lavaca County screwworm eradication committee announces multiple meetings across the county in March and April. Each gathering starts at 8:00 p.m. and will feature a film explaining the program. Livestock producers are urged to attend and support a fundraising drive to save 15 million dollars for producers.

Flatonia hosts a Thursday Stock Show on March 22 1962 with a 1:00 pm Frontier Day Parade featuring floats horses and bands. At 2:15 pm judging of hogs steers lambs and broilers follows at the Flatonia Livestock Commission Company grounds. A Premium Sale closes the event at 8:00 pm the same night.
A Social Security representative from Victoria Texas will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 am Monday March 19 1962 to help file retirement survivor and disability claims and answer questions. Maurice E Owen District Manager urged self employed people to ensure tax forms and records are correct and to check their Social Security account every three years. A Baltimore postal card can be requested for earnings statements. Rev John C Gilbert preaches at First Methodist La Grange each evening at 7 30 through Sunday March 18.
The Friendly Trail Riders Association stages its first post hiatus ride on Sunday March 18 assembling at Flatonia Livestock Commission grounds at 9:00 a.m. Riders travel to Joe Greive Ranch for a free barbecue. Assistant trail bosses named June 4 include Zane Cole Smithville E E Robbins West Point Bud Robinson Cistern Jim Lustr Moulton.
The Flatonia Modern Nursing Home owned by Mr and Mrs Rudy Zemlicka has been re classified by the State Health and Public Welfare departments. It is now first class and can admit patients with Group Hospital Insurance. The facility provides 24 hour trained nursing staff and oxygen service and offers all medical needs. Contact Mr Zemlicka for admission information.
Funeral services for William H. Albrecht will be held March 15 1962 at Buffington Chapel Yoakum at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Edward Jansky officiating. Rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery Shiner. He was 70 years 11 months and 16 days old.
Funeral services for Rudy B. Hobizal Jr infant son of Rudy B and Annie Marie Schleinschok Hobizal of Gonzales were held March 13 1962 at St James Catholic Church. Burial followed at St James Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include the parents and three sisters Mary A Betty J and Shirley S Hobizal of Gonzales.
Archdiocesan Seminary of the Assumption in San Antonio will host an open house on Sunday March 18 from 1 to 6 p.m. About five thousand people attended last year and organizers hope to double attendance. Catholic laymen are urged to bring Protestant and Jewish friends to tour the campus chapel and exhibits and receive a cordial reception.
Shiner Memorial Post 6209 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars met on March 8 to elect officers for the next year. Officers chosen include Commander Victor Pulkra bek, Senior Vice Commander Ewald Erdelt, Junior Vice Commander Hermann Krause, Quartermaster Monroe Menke, Chaplain Arnold Riske, Surgeon Edward Thompson, Advocate Emil Huser, Trustee Charlie Patek, with refreshments enjoyed afterward alongside the Ladies Auxiliary.
A new Women's Golf Association for the area held its organizational meeting at Yoakum Golf Club. Membership opens to non members with a $2 yearly fee and a 50 cent Wednesday green fee. Meetings occur on the third Wednesday with a covered dish luncheon. for information contact Mrs Marian Williford, Shiner representative.
