Forty Hours Devotion at Shiner

The Forty Hours Devotion and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament were held in Shiner from March 8 to 10 with High Mass and a five-instrument choir. The church, crowded nightly, saw 2900 Holy Communions across the three days as Rev. L. P. Netardus and fellow priests led confessions and sermons. A closing procession Sunday noon honored the Blessed Sacrament, with Father Kopp of Moulton carrying the host.

Valenta wired a radio so pupils could hear the inaugurals in the study hall. Seniors and sophomores listened at homes of Mrs. Wolters and Stratman, notes taken. Temple Lumber funds annual two-boy trip to saw mills in East Texas and Louisiana, aiding education. Chapel program featured songs, solos, quartets, readings and a musical reading by James Buske with classmates in period costume.
