Methodist Church announces Sunday School at 11 a m and evening service at 8 p m led by Rev Vernon Perry pastor with worship and sermon to follow.
Technical Sergeant Lewis Woolfolk of the Fifth Cavalry died February 25 at Fort Bliss Texas at 31. He is survived by his wife Angeline Stock and daughter Mary Ann. Funeral services were held in Shiner and at Fort Bliss with military honors. Pallbearers included Curtis Richardson and other relatives. The Gazette extends sympathy to the family.
Emil Krejci a longtime Moulton area resident died Sunday in Shiner hospital after contracting the flu which developed into pneumonia and complications. Funeral Mass at Moulton Catholic Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. survivors include wife Stella Kolar and sons Eugene Raymond Melvin, plus his mother four brothers and four sisters. The community mourns a man held in high regard by friends and relatives.
In our time of sorrow the death of Sgt. Lewis Woolfolk brought comfort from friends and tokens of sympathy. We thank Rev. McDaniel the choir the American Legion and all who sent flowers. May the Lord reward kind deeds. Mrs Woolfolk and Daughter Mr and Mrs Paul Stock and family.
A fine baby boy weighing 9 pounds was born Monday evening at the local hospital to Lonnie and unnamed mother, Alphonse Bennie named with sponsors Jerome Siegel. Grandparents include Jacob Patek and Emil Fojtik. Mrs. W G Fehrenkamp becomes grandmother for the first time after a birth in Ganado at Renger Hospital Hallettsville. The 8 pound 6 ounce William Gerald was baptized Sunday with sponsors Dr Leroy Stavinoha and Mary Eloise Stavinoha. The infant wore the dress worn by his father, uncle, and aunt at their baptism.
The Blessed Virgin Society will meet Sunday March 8 after the second Mass. All members are urged to be present.

Mr and Mrs Joe Baros learned Wednesday morning their son Philip was injured in an accident at Fort Sam Houston. Details were not available at press time.
In a national emergency, a paper saving drive is laid out with weekly Tuesday pickups. Hugo Pohler oversees the effort and asks residents to place paper on their front porch where it is visible from the road. No stops will be made at houses without visible paper.

On Thursday February 26 Tommie Dixon wed Nelda Hauschild daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Hauschild at Shi ner in a small ceremony with Rev Schuetze presiding near relatives and a few friends Witnesses were Johnnie Muenich and Edmund Baros The groom serves in the army stationed at Camp Stewart Georgia and the couple will reside there The Gazette offers congratulations and best wishes for a long happy life
Coach Aubrey Ellis announced the lettermen for the basketball season just concluded. Award sweaters will go to Calvin Krause Clyde Tenbrey Laddie Rott Daniel Miculka Eugene Slanina Edward Kubecka and Wendell Howard.
Mrs. Geraldine Wefer, aged 81 years, 11 months, and 3 days, died of pneumonia on Feb 14. Funeral services were held in Shiner on Feb 15. Born in Germany, she came to America in 1879 with her husband and lived in Dreyer before residing with daughter Mrs Richard Résson. Survived by children Mrs Emil Meyer, Mrs Helena Rossow, Mrs Richard Rossow, Mr Henry Wefer, and sister Mrs August Krueger. six grandsons served as pallbearers.
George F. Kallus Lavaca County Chairman thanks the Shiner Gazette Supt. J Mil Auld and their committee and individuals for their faithful work in making the Infantile Paralysis Drive a success.
Supt J Mil Auld said local schools now spend more time on Physical Education in line with a national movement. He noted many boys were rejected for Army service due to inadequate training, stressing that a strong mind requires a strong body for a strong United States.
The Game and Fish Protective League of Shiner with owner consent closes all waters under its control to fishing and seining of minnows during March and April. Fishing for catfish bass white perch and other game fish is prohibited during this period.
Davis Slovacek, 1 year 8 months 19 days, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slovacek of Lone Tree School community, died Thursday morning after long ill health. Funeral Friday at 4 PM in Shiner Catholic church with Rt. Rev. Mons. L. P. Netardus presiding. burial in Catholic cemetery. Survived by parents, brother Ernest, sister Mary, and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Slovacek. The Gazette offers sympathy to the mourners.
Eugene J. Sanders, 19, son of Mrs. E A Sanders of Yoakum, died in an auto train collision near Enid Oklahoma during a heavy snowstorm. Six people died and 25 were injured. Sanders funeral held Sunday after remains shipped to Yoakum.

MITCHEL FIELD New York March 4 Promotion of Adolph A Svoboda son of Mr and Mrs Louis Svoboda Route 1 Shiner from private first class specialist fourth class to specialist third class in the Army Air Forces was announced here today He enlisted 14 months ago and has made a splendid record in the Service as evidenced by his advancement He is a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron at the 1st Air Support Command which under Colonel William E Kepner has the function of providing all types of aviation which may be required to insure the success of the Army ground forces.
A group of Shiner farmers attended a county-wide peanut meeting in Hallettsville courthouse Saturday. The session reported good attendance and a lively discussion on peanut planting. County Agent G C King said the entire county could profit from planting the crop, viewing it as an additional cash farming option.
Texas poultry industry reached about 46.25 million dollars in 1941 with turkeys contributing 10 million. Output rose as poultrymen boosted egg production amid Food For Victory goals. District leaders in egg income included District 11 near Houston, Fayette and Bell counties, and District 4 around Dallas. egg production averaged 158.3 per hen, with 22.7 cent price. Feed cost per hen was 1.23, yielding a 1.74 dollar payoff.
