Kolar-Stanek Post American Legion elected officers for the coming year led by J. C. Jones as Post Commander and Wm Reichardt Jr as 1st Vice Commander. Delegates to the State Convention at Corpus Christi were named with Chas Pesek and H G Koether as alternates. The next meeting will be at Sweet Home on July 18 to discuss rebuilding the dance hall and plans for attending the convention. The Ninth District leads in competitive points and may lead the parade, with the Drum and Bugle Corps invited though funding may be tight after flood losses.

First Bales Sold at Rio Grande City
The world's first 1982 cotton bales grown by Felipe Aguilar near Rio Grande City sold for 5 cents a pound, weighing nearly 500 pounds each. The sale occurred nine days earlier than last year, from last year's stalks that survived winter, with no premium awarded.
