Shiner Hospital Day Auction and Festivities Highlight Event

George Valls chairs a afternoon auction at 2:00 p.m. featuring antiques and collector items with Ronnie Compton assisting. The event includes a 1932 Chevrolet Delux coach prize or $500 cash, beer garden, multiple musical acts, dance halls, flower garden booth, bake shop, bazaar, grab bag, and Sunday Horseback ride by the Shiner Trail Riders benefiting the hospital building fund.

Shiner to Observe Holiday Tuesday

Independence Day will be observed in Shiner on Tuesday July 4 with all stores closed except usual exceptions. The First National Bank and the Shiner Post Office will also be closed and there will be no rural route deliveries.

Public Library Summer Schedule and Board Appointments

The Public Library in the Wolters Museum building lists a summer schedule with sessions on Wednesday Thursday and Saturday mornings and on the second and fourth Sundays when the museum is open. Beginning July 5 Story Hour will run Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9 45 a m in the Walters Museum. Mayor Ben Marcak presided as Library Board elected officers and assistants on June 22 1972 with Mrs Walter Garbade as chairman and Mrs Percy Garbade as assistant chairman. Peggy Valis Becky Valis and Margaret Machart named library assistants. Board members include Dr. Robert Wagner Mrs Carlos Dean Wenske Mrs Arthur Kaspar Mrs Walter Garbade Mrs Percy Garbade and Mrs Raymond Dierksen with Mrs P O Kempe filling a vacancy.

Auction Chairman George Valis urges more items for the benefit with drop points at Welhausen Hardware or by contacting his home. Fish Pond drive invites all Girl Scouts and residents to donate items at Winn's or French's, with coordinators listed. Baking, noodles, and home canned goods should be delivered to Legion Park by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July All books for the car fund-raising must be returned to Elton Zander by 12:00 noon Saturday, July 1.

Shiner Hallettsville Girl Scout Day Camp Highlights Camp

The Shiner Hallettsville Girl Scout Day Camp ran June 19 to 24 for 76 girls and leaders. Activities included crafts camping skills nature study ecology astronomy and water safety talks. Highlights were Parents Night skits by Brownies Juniors and Cadettes and the Cadettes field trip to Munson Ranch for the Horsewoman Badge.

Funeral Mass Held For Mrs. Joe Pesek in Shiner

Funeral Mass at Shiner Catholic Church for Mrs. Joe Pesek nee Julia Polasek who died June 20 1972 at Shiner Hospital aged 63. Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery with pallbearers from Shiner Gonzales and Victoria. Surviving are daughter Vlasta Pirkle son Adolph Pesek four brothers and three sisters and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband and infant son and a brother Tech Sgt Richard A Polasek killed in Italy in 1944.

Scout Troop 121 Meeting Canceled and Rescheduled

Shiner to Host Fourth of July Fundraiser at Legion Park

Thousands expected in Shiner on Sunday July 2 for a hospital add fund drive. Mayor Ben Marcak and General Chairman Dennis Mraz announced plans completed for a capacity crowd at Legion Park for the fundraising celebration.

Groundbreaking Set for New Hospital Wing

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new hospital wing are scheduled for Saturday July 1 at 3 00 p m. The event invites community members to attend as preliminary grounds work has started and construction will begin soon.

Shiner Man Arrested For Burglarizing Quick Stop

Melvin Fabian 24 of Shiner was arrested for allegedly burglarizing the Quick Stop store in Shiner on February 14 1972. He posted a $2000 bond in Hallettsville Justice Court and was released awaiting November grand jury action.

Shiner Trail Riders Prep 2 Day Trek and Dance

The Shiner Trail Riders plan a two day trek starting Saturday July 1 from Green-Dickson Municipal Park at 4:00 p.m. They ride to Town and Country Drive In on Hwy 90A then to Boe deker's Place for a night dance with The Rounders.
