Reinforcements landed off Guantanamo Bay Sunday via Mole St. Nicholas. The 900 marines encamped there fought all last night hand to hand with a force three times larger of Spaniards.

Desperate Night Battle Near Camp Ends in Repulse
After thirteen hours of brutal close combat, regulars and guerrillas were repulsed near the camp. Marines under Lieutenant Colonel Huntington formed a hollow square as the enemy attacked from four sides. Marines James McColgan and William Dunphy were killed on scouting duty. their bodies mutilated beyond recognition. Washington dispatches say 15000 troops left Key West for Santiago de Cuba escorted by sixteen war vessels.
