The Lavaca County Rural Carriers Association met at Shiner City Hall on Sunday June 6 with president Joe Hughs presiding. Hugh Lay was elected president and Tom Shandera vice president with Roy Cannon as secretary treasurer. delegates to the State Convention at College Station in July were W H Turk Jr E J Camp ion and Tom Shandera. A turkey dinner at the Commercial Hotel followed, hosted by Shiner's Commercial Club and the post office staff. attendees included postmasters, carriers and local officials, with thanks expressed to hosts.

20th Century Club Hosts Opera Evening
The 20th Century Club spent an afternoon with Mrs. E G Buske and members, sharing notes on Opera and Drama. Mabel Merrei substituted for Koniakovsky to relate Martha the Opera, Hilda Trautwein performed a vocal piece, and plans were made to present gifted musicians with no admission fee.

John J Bohuslav Dies at 66 After Illness
John J Bohuslav died at city hospital on Sunday June 6 aged 66. Funeral was held Monday June 7 with interment in the Catholic Cemetery. He leaves four sons and two daughters.
Shiner ISD census shows 353 pupils up from last year
Mr R J Strauss reports the scholastic census for Shiner Independent School District tallying 278 white children and 75 colored for a total of 353. The figure marks an increase over the previous year.

Lutheran Sunday School Outing Totals Fifty Plus Fun in Texas Cities
About seventy five Sunday school children from Halletsville with adults toured Moulton Shiner and Charlottenburg last Wednesday. They dined in Moulton and met local groups in Shiner with Frau Verein and Jongen Verein hosting. Mr J Heye introduced Pastor Heinrich of Hildesville who spoke and readings followed. The party returned home to Halletsville amid a large crowd and joyful words of planning another trip next year.

Mrs CO S Meyer proved so rapidly from her recent operation she could leave the hospital next Sunday. Mrs J H Appelt of Hatletsville is an operative patient doing nicely. Mrs August Pagel Sr was a patient for several days but is now at her home in this city. Miss Janie Walker is visiting Brownwood for a short vacation while her sister Mrs Salome Steger relieves her in hospital duties. Dr J D Gray left Tuesday for San Antonio to join his family for a week camping and fishing at Medina Lake.
