At a mess meeting in the Goliad courthouse the railroad committee told promoters the county would provide a right of way and a bonus of 1000 per mile but would not meet the 75000 bonus requested. The Gonzales Inquirer notes the push could spur action.
Epworth League notes show a regular business meeting set for Friday night June 10 at 8 30 with eight to ten new members expected. After the session a reception service will form the new membership of 50 active members. Sunday night June 12 features a missions program with hymns scripture and talks led by local members including Miss Maude Crane Miss Minnie Grasshoff and Miss Esther Dittmar.
Hallettsville Texas notices report the death of Mrs. Caroline Schmidt at 59, with funeral in Catholic cemetery and memorials by Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Survived by husband Joseph and four children. Also listed are community updates on local visits, events, and upcoming June 22 23 agricultural fair prizes plus local public notices.
A note to readers declares last week’s Hal Lettlsville New Era report on granting a saloon license to Adolph Darilek was untrue and uncalled for. The letter accuses the paper of alleging a trust among Shiner saloon men to block the license, stating only that they consulted an attorney to pursue the law and nothing more.
In the June Gazette notes a list of preferred candidates includes Wim Eilers and O B Colquitt with others. The writer opposes Eilers and endorses John Kloppenburg, arguing Koppenpurg is as needed as Colquitt and H J.
