District Deputy Grand Matron Visits Shiner Chapter

District Deputy Grand Matron Mrs. Ella Stubblefield of Rosenberg visited Shiner Chapter D E S for its annual inspection last Tuesday. The ceremony welcomed new member Mrs. O C Henkhaus, with her daughter Mrs Irene Davis as Conductress. Thirty attended as flowers, tokens, and a social hour followed the impressive rites. Visitors included Miss Lilie Nachlinger and Mrs Ed win Holchak and Mrs E J Kempe.

Business Men's Club Meeting at Goudelock Cafe May 24

A. H. Kaspar presided as routine business was dispatched. Jaroszewski announced the Recreation Centre is complete and June programs begin. The secretary to notify ill member H. He and his wife have lived here a year and many express regret at their departure. Community Canning Plant Installed in Old City Hall

A new community canning plant is being installed in Shiner’s Old City Hall by the Cham ber of Commerce and the Lavaca County Relief Committee. The facility will prepare vegetables and meats for local families, with supervised labor and four canners, automatic sealers, and Burpee units. Operators may choose one of four cost-sharing plans, and the plant should begin operation within ten days.

Serious Accident Incurred In Ditch Crash Near Shiner

County Administrator Dziewan and Mrs Nell Allen of Hallettsville were in a car that overturned a few miles from Shiner Sunday about 7 p.m. en route from Sulphur Park. The car suffered heavy damage and both were rushed to Shiner Hospital. Dziewas had bruises and head injuries, while Mrs Allen sustained a brain contusion and severe neck and shoulder injuries. Relatives from Yoakum visited and stayed with the patients until their Monday transfer to Mrs Wm Dziewas's home in Yoakum. The incident was serious but not fatally fatal, and friends hope for a speedy recovery.

Successful District Meeting Marks Notable Convention

The Southeastern District of Catholic Staatsverband held a large Sunday convention at Bluecher Park with 10 counties represented by Shiner Parish. The event began with Catholic Church rites, a parade to the park, a substantial afternoon dinner, and a big evening dance selling 281 tickets. Receipts totaled about $500. Elected officers include Spiritual Adviser Very Rev. L.P. Netardus, President Ben Huser, Vice President Ed Fischnar, Secretary Otto Bleier, Marshal John Kloesel, and Flag bearer Louis E Hidlet.
