Arlene Fay Weber, 8 pounds, born June 1, welcomed by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weber. Jerome Joseph Pustka, 9 pounds 12 ounces, baptized at St Marys on Monday. Lewis Jr Striebeck, May 29, honored by relatives in San Antonio. Rose Marie Stary, 10 pounds 1.5 ounces, born June 4 at the local hospital. Families express warm welcomes and note sponsors and church rites where applicable.
Shiner Chapter 1e and Yoakum members held a joint installation May 31 at 8 p m with Mrs. Maude Raiford as Grand Installing officer and Mrs. Bernice House as Grand Marshal. New Shiner officers included Tommie Amsler and Eula Schultz among others. Edna Johnson and Perry Davis installed as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Yoakum Chapter. A musical program followed and refreshments were served.

Last Wednesday afternoon the home of Chas McElroy and his family near Wied was totally destroyed by a fire caused by gasoline used for ironing. Mrs McElroy and her father were at home. Mr McElroy was in the field. Mrs McElroy suffered painful burns. little of the contents were saved. The building was insured but the contents were not.
The McElroy family expresses heartfelt thanks to all who assisted during and after the fire that destroyed their home. They acknowledge every act of kindness and deeply appreciate the support.
Herbert H Liebhafsky of Shiner was named a distinguished senior at A M, with the highest GPA among Arts and Sciences candidates for a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts. He served as student assistant in economics and captain of his company, and will teach economics while pursuing a master's degree. His family attended the exercises as he received the rank of second lieutenant in the Field Artillery OFC. The Gazette joins the community in congratulating the honor student and notes Herman Liebhafsky, a previous outstanding A M senior, later earned a PhD and works in GE research in Schenectady.
L. E. Denmark re elected secretary and director of the South Texas Chamber of Commerce at a Gunter Hotel directors meeting in San Antonio on May 28. D. E. Blackburn was re elected president. The group approved a fourteen point work program and highlighted fire record credits raising Texas towns averages to 25 percent, with 64 of 95 South Texas towns earning the boost for the first time.
Beat Welhausen Diamond hosts a Sunday program featuring a game between the Shiner Brewers and the Cuero Turkey Trotters on June 9. Fans are invited to watch the teams compete in a regional matchup at the local diamond.
Martin Wagner son of John Wagner and B F Grill son of Mr and Mrs Alf Grill Jr of Shiner are graduates of the Texas Dental College at Houston. They will receive the Doctor of Dental Surgery at the 35th commencement June 10. Dr B F Pittenger dean of UT education will speak on Education in a Time of Crisis. There are 31 members in the Texas Dental College.
