In talks with farmers and business people, cotton is expected to move soon. Last week’s showers caused some damage but the section anticipates a heavier crop this year with unusually large early bolls. J. E. Kranitzky notes record-sized bolls in his farming career, while late cotton shows stalk and shedding. If conditions hold, bolls may ripen together and a request to pickers is made to stay local. The crop runs about three weeks later than last year, with whispers of a bale this weekend. Last year’s first bale arrived on July 22 followed by several others shortly after.

Pastors On Vacation at Local Churches

Henry Wietzel Secures Patent for Spray Nozzle
Henry Wietzel received a patent for an automatic spray nozzle used on cotton and similar crops. After years of work and a one year patent application, his patent was granted on July 21. Ladies Aid Society Meeting at Mrs Dreyer Home
The Methodist Aid Society met last Wednesday at Mrs Otto Dreyer's home. Vice President Mrs Cecile Plageman led the session in the absence of the president. A devotional program followed and refreshments were served. A silver offering of 5.75 was collected. George Welch of Denton attended. The August meeting will be with Mrs E J Merrem. Last week the meeting adjourned early to attend the funeral services for Mrs Sam McMurray Sr and family.
