Joe Tomas age 61 7 7 died July 4 at his Rt. 2 Gonzales home. Funeral July 5 at St. James Catholic Church Gonzales with Rev P J Roebrooks. Mrs. Mary Turk Dies From Burns After Home Fire

Mrs. Mary Turk of Glaze City died in Wagner Hospital Shiner at 8 AM Thursday July 10 after a trash burning accident at her home. She jumped into a horse trough 50 feet away but suffered third degree burns over most of her body. Services were held Friday at Seydler Funeral Home Gonzales with Dr Fay Valentine officiating and burial in Masonic Cemetery. born March 19 1879 in Lavaca County she married Lewis Turk December 27 1903. he died January 5 1949. Seaman Elroy Boedeker Undergoes Kidney Surgery

Elroy Boedeker son of Mr and Mrs John Boedeker suffered a left kidney injury during a ball game last Friday night. A base runner collided with him. He was removed from the game and rushed to Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio where doctors removed his left kidney Tuesday morning. Reports on Wednesday indicate he is doing as well as could be expected.

Yoakum Tire Merchant J N Vrazel Dies At 62

J N Vrazel of Yoakum a tire merchant died of a heart attack after watching the Republican convention in Chicago. Born in Breslau he moved to Yoakum in 1922 with wife Viola Haternik. Funeral details note interment at St Josephs Cemetery with nephews as pallbearers. Survivors include four sons, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral for Mrs Henry Mueller Held in Hallettsville

Funeral services for Mrs Henry Mueller 58 of Route 3 Shiner were conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Ka bena Funeral Home Hallettsville and proceeded to Witting Lutheran Church for 3:00 PM rites. Interment followed in Witting Cemetery. She died Sunday July 13 at 1:25 AM at home. Nee Dora Koenning she was a Sweet Home native who lived in Witting and Shiner areas and was a Lutheran. Survivors include Henry Mueller of Route 3 Shiner two sons Gilbert and Paul two daughters Bernice Himmelreich of Poth and Dorothy Horecka two brothers Emmanuel Koenning and three sisters Frieda Koenning Hulda Riske and Minnie Neubauer.

Mystery Farm Identified by Local Readers

Last week readers identified the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Janik on Route 2 five miles west of Shi ner in the old Menges School community. The Janiks bought it in 1943 from the Husin­ecky estate and have rebuilt the home and outbuildings. They plan further remodeling. Frank Janik, his wife Ludmila Marek, and their four children are active in farming, soil conservation, and local church life. Several locals correctly named the farm, with Rose Machacek first prize for correct identification.

Boy in Austin Hospital Recovers from Poliomyelitis

Charlie Janota Jr. 26, moved to Brackenridge Hospital after poliomyelitis diagnosis. His condition shows improvement with leg and arm movement, good appetite, and excellent morale while in Room 160 Austin Texas. The case marks the first in Shiner in over four weeks.

Shiner Business Men's Club Ladies Nite and Officer Installations

The Shiner Business Men's Club held its annual ladies night banquet and officer installation at Legion Park on Thursday July 10 at 7 30 PM. Edwin Kusak and His Tune Twisters provided music as members and guests enjoyed barbecue chicken onion rings and lemon pie.
