Funeral postponement after Smithville trip

M. E. Wolters and Fred C. Krause drove to Smithville Monday for Emil Buescher's funeral. A torrential downpour soon after disrupted travel, and upon leaving church at 6:30 PM rain continued. Burial was postponed to Tuesday afternoon due to cemetery inaccessibility.

Methodist Church Services and Local Fish Stock News

Next Sunday night at 8 o'clock Rav Gibbons will preach at the Methodist church. Saunders Richter earns congratulations for acceptance at the State Medical School at Galveston after two years at Schreiner Institute and one year at State University. About 12 000 fish have been received for distribution in Rocky Boggy Ponton Creeks and Martin Lake with 3 000 black bass from Kerrville and 9 000 from San Marcos hatcheries. A shipment of 3 000 white perch is expected. Fish are supplied through State Game Warden Henry Russek of Schulenburg.

Mr Fritz Sander underwent an emergency appendicitis operation at the local hospital Tuesday of last week and is reported doing nicely. Sunday afternoon at about 6 o clock Grandpa Wm Steeltie was stricken with sudden illness during a family reunion and birthday celebration. He is considered in a very serious condition.

Car Crash Injures Aug Werner on Hallettsville Road

Aug Werner sustained injuries Tuesday after a rear tire flat caused his Chevrolet to overturn three times near the Kasper gin on the Hallettsville road. Bureau Plans Yoakum Cuero Road Upgrade

The State Highway Department announced Yoakum to Cuero on Highway 72 will be included in a list of highway improvements costing about 4.5 million dollars. The project will remove all railway grade crossings and cut the distance to Cuero by roughly three miles. An underpass will merge Highway 29 from Hochheim to Gonzales with Highway 72, routing through DeWitt County via Yoakum Cuero and Yorktown.

Federal government releases 260 million dollars for roads for the year starting July 1. Texas counties issue bonds to gain priority in fund distribution. Geologist Crushed by Oil Derrick at Ezzell

A geologist, H. S. Cooper of San Antonio, was badly crushed when a derrick toppled at an Ezzell oil test well in Lavaca County. He was buried for over an hour, then flown to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition. Reports say he is rapidly recovering at Santa Rosa Hospital.

Road machinery unloaded for highway 109 project

About seven cars of heavy highway machinery are being unloaded here for building a concrete road between here and Flatonia. Pouring begins July 15 under Engineer Koether. American Paving Company awarded the contract and will employ about 100 people. Many experienced operators and families have arrived from Omaha. The project will take about nine months to complete.
