Shiner Lions Club Program Draws Large Shiner Crowd

The Yoakum Lions Club sponsored an outdoor program at the Shiner playground with eight carloads of Lions and guests, including the Grand Theatre loud speaker truck. The crowd applauded each number from greetings by C. C. Crutch field to songs, jokes, dances, and talks, ending with Farewell to Thee and a goodwill message from Mrs. Ella Lane of Shiner.

County Agent J M Parks forwards a Bankhead Act notice about cotton quotas published June 22 and June 21 from the U S Department of Agriculture. Appeals to Washington may be filed within 15 days only with sworn statements and documentation showing a clear injustice. unlikely to upset published quotas. The Lavaca allotment is 19 166 bales of 478 pounds net.

Shiner Moves to Drill Third Water Well

City officials authorize drilling of Shiner’s third water well with Best Bros. of Waelder contracted. A derrick is erected near the oil mill and work begins. The aim is a strong flow to support increased demand as the city awaits deeper wells and the standpipe’s 115000 gallon capacity. Oil men have shown interest in logging strata at the site.

Cannery Boosts Output Amid Record Two Week Total

Mrs. O T Meyer reports 2527 cans produced over two weeks with only 7 spoiled, a record Miss Pfluger hails as splendid. Canned goods kept eight days before shipment to Hallettsville. Records show relief 1245 cans and home consumption 1285. The third week opened past Monday with a daily record of 503 cans. Corn, tomatoes and tomato juice remain the main products.

Dr Wagner Undertakes Postgraduate Studies in Chicago
