Shiner Parade Marshals Named For 4th Of July Celebration

Mrs. William Wendtland Jr and Glade Welhausen will serve as parade marshals for Shiner's July 4 downtown parade at 10 am. Bastrop and Luling entries, awards, judges, bands including Shiner Hobo Band, and an afternoon dance with four bands mark the Bicentennial celebration. Continuous stew, sausage, and concessions open at 10:30 am with a beer garden and various entertainments throughout the day.

Whites Auto Store Opens for Web Grand Opening

By June 30, Yoakum residents gain a new business as White's Auto Store Inc headed by Dan Frels and his wife Susan plans a grand opening. The store will offer hardware auto maintenance sporting goods gifts and later musical instruments. Frels, a Karnes City band director, notes initial merchandise is arriving and orders follow company policy.

Free Immunization Clinic Set for July 7 in Hallettsville

The Free Shots Clinic sponsored by the Texas Department of Health Resources will be held July 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse Halletts ville. DTP polio measles mumps and rubella vaccines will be offered to children and tetanus diphtheria shots to adults. The Shiner Chamber of Commerce float took third place in the Lavaca County Bicentennial Parade in Hallettsville. On June 6, 1976, the float featured patriotic colors with flags and Miss Carla Beth Kubicek representing Shiner and the Chamber. She wore a red gown and carried a red white and blue bouquet, and the trophy bore patriotic colors and a silver cup.

The United Methodist Women held their June meeting in Fellowship Hall with Mrs. Paul Kempe presiding. Officers Mrs. Don Wertz and Mrs. E H Mueller led as secretary and treasurer respectively. Members approved a local charity and Thailand missionary donation. A tribute honored the late Mrs. George Turk.

No Parking On Streets Along Parade Route July 4

Organizations sponsoring the July 4 celebration and the Bicentennial parade committee urge spectators to keep the parade route clear. Parade assembles at W. 13th St and No. Avenue G and proceeds through downtown Shineron Avenue E to West Second Street ending at Legion Park. entries should be in place by 9 15 am. As of June 28 the entry count stands at 85 with more expected.

Shiner Hospital Plans Long Term Care Bed Program

The Shiner Hospital Foundation board approves a contract with the Social Security Administration to use empty beds for long term skilled nursing care. The move aims to cut costs, boost income, and extend services in the community while benefiting inpatients and Medicare. The June 21 1976 meeting also reviewed an emergency radio system and ambulance services reorganization along with monthly statistics of 54 admissions 423 patient days and 86 emergency responses.

Something Special For July 4 Parade Viewers

Spectators in Shiner will see two giant 6 by 14 foot hand sewn crimson flags at the corner of Avenue E and Seventh Street, above Shiner Drug Co. The flags, donated by Mr and Mrs H G Schwabe and sewn by Mrs Verona Goetz, will be mounted Friday evening July 2 for the Independence Day celebration.

Shiner Stores and Post Office Closed for Independence Day

Shiner business houses will close Monday July 5 for Independence Day with warning to buy groceries on Saturday. The Shiner Post Office also closes and no window or rural route mail on that day. The Star operates normally but outgoing mail goes to the outside box at 4 p.m.

Shiner History Book Delayed to August Publication

The Shiner history book “After Half Moon” will not be ready by July 4 1976. Publication is delayed due to the author’s thorough approach and printer workload from Bicentennial books. Spirit of 76 Covers Available in Shiner Texas

The final Spirit of 76 Bicentennial Cover will be issued for the July 4 celebration and sold after the Fourth by Henry Fietsam at Shiner Drug Store or by mail from Carl Goerte, Box 927, Shiner Texas 77984. Previous celebration covers are available. If orders were placed, buyers should pick up at the drug store soon. Each cover costs 50 cents.
