Mil business houses will close all day next Monday for the Independence Day celebration. Shoppers are urged to buy supplies Saturday as no further opportunity will exist until Tuesday morning. Help merchants and employees close the town for the holiday.
Mon day morning all business houses closed for the Echo of the Liberty Bell service. Mayor Runk rang the first bell at 11 11 to signal five minutes of city bells. Kolar Stanek Post and Boy Scouts led a parade to Welhausen Park with the American Legion raising Old Glory and reading President Coolidge's proclamation. The legion pledged the flag and the salute. Larger cities plan a week for Action's 150th birthday with daily programs. Mayor Rank announces opening day and the Legion ends the week on Monday July 5 with an all day celebration.
Due to delays in fixtures arrival the ice cream and fountain service was briefly down. The shop is now ready with Sherbet cups Kiddie drinks and a range of ice creams and cold beverages. A scheme for new customers is announced.
Shiner schedule lists Masses and devotions at Sacred Heart and St Ann’s with English sermons and confession times. A special 150 year celebration for St Cyrillus and Methodius Day includes a 9:00 A M procession from Priesthouse to Church and Solemn High Mass led by Rev C J Benes, Pastor.
Wolters Bros. Co offers men s oxford shoes in new Tan and Blonde shades with soft and hard leather options. Regularly six dollars, sale price four dollars ninety five cents.
Local ad notes an American Legion celebration event on Monday July 5 along with shoe sale items including Mens Oxfords in black tank and parchment shades plus special values on select footwear.
Moody could not secure a release at Burton and Rockdale and called the American Legion last Saturday. He requested a 10:30 Monday morning appearance, placing Shiner as the day’s first engagement.
Readiness for the Independence Day Legion event shows the parade to begin at 9 o'clock from Public School Campus, moving at 9 30 through the business district to Bluecher Park. Mr Moody must speak in the forenoon shifting the schedule to 10 30 A M with Dan Moody and local Republican candidates following.
Base ball game between Schulenburg and Shiner expected to be good. Supper will be served on the grounds and arrangements made to take care of everyone.
The American Legion hosts a dinner on Monday with C. M. Koerner handling the oats. A bountiful Koerner style meal includes meats such as pork sausage, salads, and other items for 50 cents. Lunch served in the afternoon.
A noon dinner aims to provide a genuine meal and assures guests that any visiting friends will be treated royally. The plan includes taking cats to the park so they need not worry about pets during the visit.
The parade committee has been busy arranging the event and has not interviewed everyone personally. Anyone wishing to enter a float or any decoration is welcome. About forty five entries have already been booked, and more will be accepted.
A big night event promises good times for attendees with the Sun Flower Orchestra of San Antonio providing the music for the dance drawing in hopeful dancers and music lovers alike.
Remember-all members gather at the High School Campus at 9 00 AM on Monday. Parade moves promptly at 9 30 AM.
Julius Appelt and Buck Sokol hosted Mrs Florence Griswold of San Antonio who will give a brief address next Monday afternoon at the celebration. Griswold is national committee woman of the Republican party and will talk especially to the ladies, sharing an interesting message.
The rest room for ladies is run by a capable force and promises constant activity and a good time. Three bands will perform, ensuring ample music. Shiner showcases eight governor candidates speaking the same day, a notably unusual event. Come, see, and hear them.

James R. Jaks reports his wife and baby arrived from Blythe California last week after a five day journey. The desert segment was driven at night to escape extreme heat and ensure safer travel.
