London reports engineers and divers expect to raise thousands of pounds in valuables from the sunken Lusitania this year though lifting the ship or large parts of its cargo is ruled out by the vessel’s deep ocean depth. Theodore Dziewas returned home from Victoria last week.
Federal agents seized a so called money making machine in San Antonio revealing a device claimed to turn any metal into $5 gold pieces. Edward Tyrell explains the system uses a concealed imprint of a genuine $5 coin and a hidden mechanism to swap in genuine pieces, with 15,000 rounds of ammunition bound for Mexico.
Mrs Susana Mari, a 70 year old widow living alone near the Catholic Church, died suddenly while sitting in her chair on Monday January 19. Her remains were interred at the Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday the 21, with Rev Father X Wolf conducting the obsequies.
Shiner merchants and business men reach a mutual pact to close all shops at six each evening from January 22 until the cotton season reopens around August.

Septuagesima Sunday notice from Immanuel’s Lutheran Church invites members to English Sunday School at 9 and English service at 7:30 with a sermon on God’s Revelation in Nature. German service at 10 am features a sermon on salvation as the only way. Pastor H. C. Bierman extends cordial invitation. this is the second sermon in a Bible series.

Siems will continue with the business at a new place and customers are invited to visit. The firm will operate on a cash basis with marked prices to benefit customers.
Mrs. Laura Muecke reconstructs on the same East End site after her home was destroyed by fire. The Southland Lumber Company will furnish all material with local manager O W Miler stating weather permitting the contractors will push to completion the new domocile.
Miss Annie Schaefer visits Fort Worth while Miss Pauline stays with friends in Gonzales. The Koenning Grocery Co has been renamed to W. P. Koenning & Co and invites customers with a promise of good service.
A list thanks subscribers including Mrs P H Hagens in San Antonio and many others in Shiner Floresville Yoakum and Orange Grove. New names join the Gazette while the price remains 1.50 dollars and several pay years in advance. Only three days remain at the old price.
Paris police said Henri Landru’s Gambais villa, linked to the alleged serial killer, was sold to a Paris businessman for 50,000 francs. Prewar value was 10,000 francs. Landru is accused of luring and disposing of numerous women after hosting twelve fiancées at the property.
