City Tax Notice For Shiner Taxpayers

Important notice to City of Shiner and Shiner Independent School taxpayers. If February taxes remain unpaid they become delinquent and incur a 10 percent penalty. The City Council and School Board have been lenient, but January 31 is the deadline to avoid the delinquent list. J M Canon Collector.

County Tournament Opens in Hallettsville Friday

The Lavaca County championship begins Friday night January 26 at Hallettsville with Hallettsville hosting Charlottenburg and Moulton versus Shiner. The field includes three towns near parity, with defending champions Moulton and veteran leadership at Hallettsville and Shiner showing promise from a young squad led by Bubba Fischner.

Radio to Honor President Birthday Ball Broadcast

Radio will participate in the President's Birthday Ball with a coast to coast hookup on National and Columbia Systems. Shiner Comanches Defeat Weimar Wildcats

The Shiner Comanches beat the Weimar Wildcats 24 to 22 in a thrilling game last Friday. Grill led Shiner with nine points followed by Doc Darilek six, Houschild four, Fischner three, and Apts two. Potthast of Weimar scored 12 to pace the Wildcats. Shiner’s A and B teams also defeated their Weimar counterparts, 24-22 and 20-17, with Heger leading the B game with nine points.

Howard Chandler Christy painted a striking red white and blue poster for a nationwide January 30 celebration of President Roosevelt's birthday. The image shows Miss America shielding two children with a demon figure above and carries the slogan America to our aid and stand by the President from the raiser. Morris Krueger Seriously Hurt In Auto Wreck

Morris Krueger was seriously injured in an auto wreck near Yoakum on Friday night while returning from Cuero with A. O. Frobese. He was taken to Huth Memorial Hospital with head cuts and chest injuries after their car rolled several times in soft dirt.

Shiner Native Edwin Holchak Nominated Kenedy Postmaster

Edwin D. Holchak, longtime Kenedy bank assistant cashier and Shiner native, is recommended by Don Kleberg for postmaster at Kenedy. Married in 1922 to Bessie Rutledge, with two sons, he has served 17 years with First Nichols National Bank and aided H. W. McGoldrick in notes. He is praised for courtesy, civic work, and sports involvement.
