Two Children Die in Locked Cottage Fire at Yoakum

Viola Frazier aged four and Like Lee Frazier aged three died in a fire that trapped them inside a locked room while their mother went to the post office. The blaze destroyed the cottage near the ice factory, no insurance coverage, father worked for the railroad. Funeral scheduled for the two girls tomorrow in Yoakum.

Trustees' Day A Success in County Schools

On January 19 County Superintendent Wm. Eilers designated Trustees' Day. A total of 135 trustees visited schools last Friday, the best record yet. Prof. Eilers visited four schools Wit ting Wied Oak Grove and Scharlottenburg, finding all trustees present and pupils progressing well. If weather remains clear, substitutes will be held January 20. otherwise postponement to the following Saturday is possible.

Knights of Pythias Hall Receives Major Renovation

The K P Hall in the Blohm building has a new look with a cooler summer and warmer winter interior. The stairway entrance is reconfigured, the Lodge room occupies the former ante rooms, and fresh paint and new floor coverings brighten the space. The hall now presents an inviting atmosphere for Knights of Pythias members.

Snowball spectacle on empty streets draws crowd

Last Friday in town a snowball battle occurred despite no snow in the area. A northbound freight train carried a refrigerator car with a snow bank on top drawing participants to climb aboard and shovel fake snow, attracting a mixed crowd of all ages. Where did it come from?

County School Notes Exemption Extended For Moulton Shiner

The compulsory attendance law ends countywide January 16, with Moulton and Shiner granted three months of exception until April 1 and January 1 respectively. Attendance officer Washburn remains on duty through the terms for enforcement during the grace period.

Dallas Reynolds Hosts Complimentary New Year Dance

Miss Dallas Reynolds entertained guests including Miss Daniel of Corsicana and Miss Dunn of Shiner at Vogel Hall on New Year’s night. Guests arrived to receive, with program distribution by Russell Flowers and Frances Reynolds, and the grand march led by Miss McDaniel and Garland Powers as fifty couples danced for three hours, followed by a midnight salad course.

Justice Court Brief Session in Shiner Case

A short Justice Court session in Shiner heard a forcible entry and detainer suit brought by Mrs. Anna Uhlar against tenant Richard Braun. A large crowd attended but no trial occurred as only four jurors qualified. Judge Habermacher ill. Judge Janszen of Moulton presided.

Twentieth Century Club Meets for Poetry Reading

Mrs Jaroszewski Scalded When Steam Blows Off Lid

Mrs Jaroszewski was badly burned in the face and eyes after a boiling soup lid blew off and splashed liquid. Doctors say injuries are painful but not serious and she should recover in weeks. The accident occurred Wednesday noon at her home.
