A fatal shooting occurred in Youkaum at 9:30 pm on Thursday. Tom Webb a 45 year old stock buyer arrived on Wednesday night, visited the gambling room at the Ruby saloon, allegedly lost money and was subsequently killed.
A man named Will Toland shot and killed Webb in a confrontation over money on Yoakum Avenue. Toland surrendered to City Marshal Criswell and was taken to jail in Hallettsville after the train arrival. Keith details show self defense likely to be argued at the examining trial before Justice G W McElyea next Wednesday. The incident draws strong community interest as the victim Webb was a married father with several children.
A man who lived in DeWitt county for over thirty years died yesterday at his home in the eastern part of the city. The remains will be laid to rest in the city cemetery at 4 p.m. today. A testimonial from Thomas Bower of Glencoe praises Chamberlains Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy for curing his son after use of two bottles. For sale by all druggists.
Houston dispatch reports Sergeant W J McCarty leading a ranger squad from Orange to Bastrop under Governor orders to reinforce officers at the reopened Townsend Reese feud. Will Menents, wounded in Monday's tragedy, is recovering well as cops tighten train arrivals and enforce pistol laws ahead of the grand jury reconvening.
The Bastrop grand jury indicted Jim Coleron Tom Daniels Walter Reese and Less Reese for the murder of Arthur Burford and charged others with assault with intent to murder Will Clements. Indictments set for Jan 24 with a special venue of 125 for each case. Rangers aided sheriff to prevent faction violence as crowds of about 500 witnessed events.
