The Shiner Chamber of Commerce met January 7 1971 at Casa Fiesta with president John Cook. Impressive Rites Held Sunday For Miss Elizabeth Degenhardt
Elizabeth Degenhardt died January 15 1971 in Fredericksburg nursing home aged 78. A Requiem Mass at Shiner Catholic Church followed by burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. She was a longtime caregiver for priests and the sick, with ties to Shiner Beeville San Antonio and Comfort. She is survived by brother John P. Degenhardt and numerous relatives.

The state launches a statewide voter registration drive led by Secretary of State Martin Dies Jr. A cutout registration form will be mailed to the County Tax Assessor-Collector who serves as registrar. Hearing Slated For Mont Sweet Home FM Highway 318
The Texas Highway Department will hold a public hearing at 10:00 a.m. on February 24, 1971 in Firemen's Hall Sweet Home Texas to discuss Farm-to-Market Highway 318 from Mont to Sweet Home. St Mary’s Parish Plans 135th Anniversary Celebration
Parishioners at St Mary’s meet to plan the 135th anniversary on Sunday June 6 1971 with a 10:00 am Mass led by clergy including Archbishop Furey and Bishop Morkovsky followed by a 2:00 pm dedication of a historical marker. An all day parish picnic is also planned. The rural church sits five miles NW of Hallettsville on FM 340 and traces to 1836 with Rev Henry Psencik pastor for 30 years.
