In Our Early Files GRAY-KUBITZ report a quiet wedding last Sunday December 31 at the residence of Rudolph Jaeggli. Dr J D Gray and Alma Kubitz were married with few relatives present and friends wish them happiness and prosperity.
January 10, 1900 Shiner merchants agree to keep stores closed on Sundays with nearly all signing and forfeit of $50. The move aims to benefit merchants and clerks by allowing a weekly day of rest while maintaining business overall. Leaders are praised for prudent judgment.
On January 18 last, at J. W. Tinkler’s home in Rock Island Hallettsville, H Streibeck and Lula McIntire were married by Rev Green in a quiet ceremony with few friends present. Streibeck works as a bookkeeper and salesman for Wolters Bros. The Gazette extends good wishes for their future.

C B Welhausen Jr arrived in town last Sunday and C B Welhausen Sr is now stepping high. He feels several inches taller.
Rev. J. D. McWhorter will conduct both morning and evening services at the Methodist Church next Sunday. The public is cordially invited to attend.
The Friday night event at Ford Service Station drew packed crowds with Will McElroy guiding the quadrille and Ernest Schultz leading music. Shiner’s flappers and jellybeans watched as rye waltz polka and schottische drew younger dancers, with Strauss and Herder coordinating guests and plans already under way for another booking.

Shiner's new theatre will be named tonight with the winner receiving five dollars. Hundreds of names have been suggested and only one will be chosen.
Governor Miriam A. Ferguson designates January 17 to January 23 as Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Week. The proclamation notes that governors of other Confederate states set aside the week to promote Stone Mountain coin sales for memorial carvings honoring Southern heroes.

The January meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association at the school house collected dues from members and welcomed eleven new members including Mesdames Gus Seim Lillie Wendtland and honorary Messrs. A membership drive was planned under Mrs Arno Wagner and Mrs Otto Dreyer to support the school. An operetta by pupils planned for early March and a pie sale for Wednesday were announced. The club will meet again February 11.
More Improvements Hajek Bros owners of the City Market have installed Brecht Electric Refrigeration as the new year begins. The 12 by 4 by 30 inch display case holds 20 platters and promises perfect sanitation. One man can do the work of three with the dependable electric current. The market invites visits to see the complete display and plant, claiming progress in the electric age with lights, telephone, grinder and now an electric freezer.
A necklace of pearls disappeared last Saturday afternoon. A reward is offered for its return to this office.
The notice from J. M. Canon, City Collector, warns that the 31st is the limit to pay taxes this election year. After the date a ten percent penalty will be added, so citizens should pay now to avoid the fee. Only a few days remain.
