Eastern Star bids farewell to Edith Mang before wedding

In Moulton the Mason ic hall hosted a farewell supper for Edith Mang, a popular Eastern Star member who wed Louis Schmidt on Wednesday morning and will live in Kenedy. Local visitors included Mrs. William J. Tomasko and Emil Tomasko from Shiner and Prof. F. G. Havel of Evergreen.

City Taxes Due Prompted by Busy City Marshal

City taxes are due and City Marshal Canon handles the finances with his noted good humor as townspeople pay the dues, making him one of the busiest men in town.

School Mothers Club elected officers at high school

Members of the Mothers Club held a well attended meeting at the high school last Thursday electing President Mrs C B Welhausen Vice President Mrs S A Thulemeyere Secretary Miss Natalie Trautwein Assistant Secretary Miss Aghes Koniakovsky Treasurer Mrs T J Ponton A committee was formed to recruit new members and the group looks forward to a productive year. A basketball game between Yoakum and Shiner high school teams drew a good crowd and the Yoakum teams won. A morning fire alarm prompted quick action as a fire in the school building was suppressed with help from staff and the janitor aided by sand and caps. the fire department arrived but found the fire out.

Social afternoon at Miss Hollmanns home noted

Despite icy weather a pleasant session occurred at Miss Hollmanns palatial home with Edith Schaefer Schulenburg Leontie Helmers Esther Dittmar Stella Wolters Viasta Marik Carrie Valenta and Natalie Trautwein among the members. An appetizing salad course hot chocolate and cake were served and guests regretted ad journ.

Wild-Dryer Couple Weds In Yoakum At Bride's Parents Home

Arthur Wild of Slaton and Edna Dreyer of Yoakum wed at the bride’s parents home in Yoakum on Wednesday night January 10 at 8 o’clock. Judge F G Patton officiated. A supper followed and the couple departed by 1 40 a m train for Slaton to begin life on a new ranch.

Shiner Teachers Local Institute Sets January Meeting

The Teachers Local Institute at Shiner Texas schedules a January 20, 1917 session from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program includes opening exercises, topics on local institutes value, daily register and term report reading, classification comparisons by Dr Henderson and Dr Bruce, and discussions on arithmetic problem solving and history event topics. Schmidt Mang nuptials connect Kenedy and city couple

Louis Schmidt of Kenedy and Edith Mang of this city wed at the bride’s parents home. Rev H A Heineke of the Lutheran church officiated. The groom, a prosperous young businessman, plans a Houston honeymoon after departure for Shiner by train. The Eagle extends best wishes for a long, happy marriage.

Moeckel family updates after Yoakum hospital visit

Mrs. Er. C. Moeckel and her daughter Miss Christa returned from Kidd-Key College at Sherman and traveled to Yoakum Friday morning for an appendicitis operation at Yoakum Hospital. Accompanying relatives include Mr. and Mrs. Max Wolters Mrs. Elo Wolters and Victor Wolters. Friends report improving health and a possible return to Shiner next Sunday.

Justice of the Peace Appointed in Precinct 7 Hearing

Commissioners Court met in regular session with four applicants for the precinct 7 justice of the peace seat left vacant by L. W. Riggs. F. G. Patton was appointed and previously served in the role. Also ordered J. M. Mikulenka made supervisor of the poor farm and that all county purchases require the county judge’s sanction.

Lavaca County Commissioners Court appointed Fred G. Patton of Yoakum to fill the unexpired term of the late L W Riggs as justice of the peace for Precinct 7. Patton’s friends welcome his appointment as Alfons Hlozek joins the Herald’s mechanical department, moving from Shiner Enterprise.
