Farmers and ranchers were reminded that January 15 is the last day to file estimated federal income tax returns for 1963 unless they file a final return by February 17. Those who file and pay by January 15 have until April 15 for the final return. Eligibility, forms, and filing details were outlined by Allison B. Clark of the Internal Revenue Service in Brenham Texas.
William Gerum will help Farm Bureau members at the Hallettsville office prepare income tax returns. He will be available on Tuesdays and Fridays in January and Tuesday through Saturday in February from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Funeral services for John Jerry Elsik of 612 McClendon Corpus Christi were held Monday December 30 1963 from Clifford Jackson Funeral Chapel and a 9 30 a m mass at St Patrick s Catholic Church. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park. Survivors include wife Milady two children John Curtis and Naedeen Elsik father John H Elsik of Taylor and siblings. He was 47.
Benjamin F. Hajek son of Mr and Mrs Anton Hajek of Shiner completed requirements Dec 17 for the Doctor of Philosophy degree at Auburn University in Alabama He will move to Beltsville Maryland to work as a soil scientist for a new position
The Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank Association of San Marcos declares an 8 percent dividend on member owned capital stock outstanding at December 31 1963. Payment is planned on or about March 1 1964 and will distribute about 23000 over the association trade territory. A branch office is at 320 St. Louis Street Gonzales Texas with Assistant Manager Gordon Finley.

January is school census month in Texas with Mrs. Edward Kasper named Census Trustee for the Shiner Independent School District. All children ages 6 to 18 as of September 1, 1964 must be counted across public, Catholic, and Negro schools. Families with new entrants in 1964 should be counted. contact the superintendent or visit the office to arrange enumeration. Cooperation is urged to finish the count by month’s end.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Krause of Refugio and Mrs. Frieda Filip visited in Houston where Mrs. Filip recently underwent surgery at M. D. Anderson Hospital. She is recovering rapidly and plans to leave the hospital next week. Donald Filip and family from West Columbia also joined the weekend visit.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday January 3 in Fort Smith Arkansas for Mrs. Charles Parsons nee Vlasta Kaci 64 formerly of the Yoakum Cuero area. She died December 31 after a heart attack and stroke. She resided at Lamar Arkansas. Survivors include her husband Charles Parsons of Lamar her mother Mrs. Mary Kacir of Yoakum four brothers Joe Kacir Shiner Charles Kacir El Campo Aug Kacir West nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her father Joe Kacir Sr and two sisters Mrs. John Mary Dolezal and Mrs. Otto Albina Hanys of Yoakum.

Lubyinesky 72 a retired farmer of Westhoff were held Tuesday afternoon at Freund Funeral Home Cuero Reverend Harold Fehler officiated burial was in Gonzales City Cemetery He married Annie Hajek on October 22 1912 she died August 9 1944 Survived by sons Willie Westhoff Edwin Victoria daughters Mrs Willie Grossman Shiner and Mrs Leroy Wendel San Antonio two sisters Mrs Charles Parke and Mrs Ed Gatlin Gonzales

Fred Uleak of Route 2 Yoakum died January 6 1964 at about 8 30 am from a heart attack. Funeral services were held January 8 at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and Saints Cyril and Methodius Church with a Requiem Mass. Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Rosalie Migl Uleak a son Rud A Uleak two daughters Milady Elsik and Marian Eicher three brothers Julius Joe Johnny and four sisters. He was born June 5 1891 in St Marys Lavaca County and was a farmer.
Funeral rites for Joseph Kloesel Route 1 Moulton will be held Tuesday January 7 from Smith Funeral Home at 9:15 am and 9:30 am at St Joseph Catholic Church. Burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Kloesel 86 born March 23 1877 in High Hill Fayette County Texas died January 5 1964 in Shiner. Surviving five sons, a sister, a brother, 27 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Preceded by wife and a son.

Evans of Hallettsville seeks Lavaca County Attorney. three contenders enter the sheriff race including Ronnie Dodds, Guy Henry and Bill Renger, with Sheriff Theo Long not seeking re election. Other races include district judges, district attorney, congressman, state senator, constables, commissioners, governor and national offices. Voters must pay a county poll tax with Tax Assessor-Collector Frances Polasek.

A notice from E. A. Kasper Constable of Precinct 3 describes complaints of individuals poisoning animals by placing deadly substances on bones. Pets died instantly after biting the bones, with risk to children nearby if contact had occurred. Authorities urge caution and reporting of any suspicious activity.
Colorado County officers report juveniles aged nine to fourteen were arrested for rifling the Israel Mann home near Weimar on Thanksgiving day. Mirrors and windows were shot out, beds overturned, and damages agreed to be repaired by the parents. The shooting of three Hereford bulls nearby is not connected, with two bulls dead and one recovering.

Mrs Mary Theresa Schumann died at Crews hospital Gonzales at 2 45 pm Saturday January 4 1964. Funeral services set for 9 45 am and 10 am Tuesday January 7 at St James Catholic Church with Rev Father Peter J Roebrooks officiating. Burial in St James Cemetery. She was born October 10 1876, married Andrew Schumann in 1898, and survived by four sons, two sisters, 30 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons.
Yoakum resident Frank Kubenka died Monday night at Huth Memorial Hospital at age 101. Funeral services were held January 2 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel and St. Joseph’s Church with a Czech English sermon praising his faith. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. he came to America from Czechoslovakia at age 10.
Lavaca County Precinct No 3 voter notice states Joe H Kouba will not seek re election in the May 1964 Democratic primary. He expresses gratitude for 22 years of support and pride in community progress and achievements.
Eight men faced fines and costs totaling 1282.50 for trespassing and deer hunting violations during the Christmas holidays. Trials for two others were set in county court. Warden Leo Kohleffel filed cases against two men caught December 31 with five deer and a single deer tag on a Dewey Goode farm in Osage. Hauck of Houston hosted the hunt and used another man’s deer tag. Additional charges arose involving antlerless deer permits and license misuse. Two trespassing cases also resulted in fines of 25 dollars and 19.50 in costs, while another trespass yielded 10 dollars plus 19.50. One man faced a 50-dollar fine for killing a doe without a permit. Weimar Mercury reports.
A deceased man, died leaving four brothers Joe August Adolph and John and sisters Mary Amalia and Frances who fell to smallpox early. He lived devoutly and served the clergy most of his life, remaining unmarried. Survivors include nieces Sister Joan of Arc and Sister M Loretta of Huth Hospital.
