Officials estimated 1,300,000 men would be made available for the armed services by the February 16 registration for those aged 20 to 44 not yet on selective service. All American males 18 to 64 not previously registered must register on that date. President Roosevelt set the mid February date for listing unregistered men subject to combat duty under the new selective service law, affecting about 9,000,000 men.

Carl Krause Taken By Death
Carl Krause aged 78 years and 6 days died December 24 after a year of feeble health. Born in Germany December 18 1863 he came to the United States at age five and lived in New Ulm Moulton and Shiner where he joined the Lutheran Church. He married Anna Kilert in 1889 and had five children, two surviving. Funeral December 25 from Fred C. Krause home then at United Dr. Martin Luther Church with burial in Moulton Cemetery. Pallbearers included Gus Seim Alf Schramm P R Otto C J Tomasko Calvin Krause and Henry Rogge. He is survived by his wife Anna, two children Fred of Shiner and Sophie of Flatonia, and four grandchildren. The Gazette offers condolences.

Mrs Anna Derrich died Sunday January 4 at 11 p m aged 80 years 5 months and 11 days. Surrounded by her husband and children she received Holy Sacraments and rests in Shiner Catholic cemetery after Requiem High Mass. Survived by husband Joseph Derrich three sons Joe Frank Peter five daughters Annie Mary Emma Martha Antonia Nagelmueller one sister and other relatives.
