By order of the Board of War Communications dated December 17, 1942 telegraph carriers begin on the 22nd to refuse domestic messages of felicitation or congratulation. The United Dr Martin Luther Church lists Sunday School at 10 a.m. Divine Service at 11 a.m. English service by Eng-Dreyer at 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays Junior choir Sunday January 17 at 11 a.m. Annual meeting Wednesday January 20 at 7 p.m. Women’s society. Members are urged to attend the annual meeting to stay informed and to reinforce faithful Christian service for a better world. Rev. Richard Schuetze speaks on divine guidance and universal care.
The Methodist Church will hold morning and evening services next Sunday at 11 15 a m and 7 30 p m with sermon topics New opportunities in the New Year and How much do you weigh A welcome to all Sunday School runs 10 15 to 11 15 am.

Christian Science services outline the Sacrament for January 10 with the Golden Text from Psalms 116 13 14 and citations from Psalms 19 14. The lesson emphasizes vows in the presence of the Lord and calls for acceptable words and thoughts before God.
Miss Edna Reischl, a fourteen year veteran teacher in Shiner Public Schools, resigned Tuesday morning effective Wednesday January 13. She will take a similar position with the Brownsville School system. Supt. Auld expressed regret over the resignation and said replacing someone as well liked and loyal would be difficult. The vacancy will be filled within the next few days.
See and hear a host of holiday hits at the Palace Theatre Holiday Inn this weekend. The program promises classic songs including White Christmas and other popular numbers, with performances slated for Sunday and Monday.
Paul Kokas aged 89 years 9 months and 17 days died at noon Tuesday December 29 1942 at the family home in the Green School area where he had lived since 1900. He was born March 12 1853 in Europe and came to America in 1882. Surviving are his wife Anna Baletka nine children 27 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Shiner Catholic Church with interment in Shiner Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Kolacny Frank Sralla Frank Glomb John Dolezal Frank Glomb Jr and Edwin Glomb.
The Lavaca County Farm Transportation Committee has received a supply of farms to appeal to the Office of Defense Transportation for additional gasoline. Many farmers filed temporary appeals, but now must use the official form. Forms are available at the AAA office with assistance provided by the committee. O. E. Hermes, Chairman.

Joe Malik aged 50 from Charlottenburg Lavaca County died suddenly at 3 p.m. Saturday at a local medical clinic after years of fragile health. Born in Czechoslovakia he came to the United States at 13 and married Mary Cerny in 1922. Survived by wife six children Joe Jr August Johnny Dorothy Martha Lillie two brothers Isidore Worthing Paul Yoakum and sister Louise Malik San Antonio. Funeral was at home then Shiner Catholic Church with Requiem High Mass and burial in the Catholic Cemetery. KJT Society attended. Pallbearers named. He was a respected husband father and neighbor.

Mr and Mrs Anton DeHarde announce the marriage of their son Sgt Edgar DeHarde to Miss Rita OConnor of New York. The ceremony was held December 19 at St Philip Neri rectory on Grand Concourse New York. Sgt DeHarde serves with military police at Fort Jay Governor Island and they will reside in Manhattan.

Pvt Walter W Garbade son of Mayor C J Garbade and Mrs Garbade of Shiner scored 185 to earn an Expert rating in rifle marksmanship during basic training at the Branch Immaterial Replacement Training Center Camp Joseph T Robinson Ark Inducted Oct 19 1942 he has been at Camp Robinson since Nov 14 1942 He will be prepared for duty with any service branch prior to induction he was employed as a railway mail clerk out of San Antonio his wife resides at 2014 Waverly Ave San Antonio
The local Red Cross lists 322 knitted articles 971 sewn garments 386 soldier kits completed in 1942. The surgical dressing room produced thousands of dressings shipped to headquarters and a new wool and dressing shipment awaits workers. The Home Service Section supports soldiers families countywide with numerous confidential cases.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks for support during the loss of Paul Kokas. They especially thank Rev. Bily for services and consoling words, those who prayed at home, those who delivered flowers, and the pallbearers. May God bless all who helped them cope with grief. His Wife and Children.

Coffee excesses above one pound on hand Nov 28 lead to stamp removals when applying for war ration book Two. Jan 21 last day No 3 coupons in A books. No 4 valid Jan 22. Jan 31 last day for temporary T coupons via ration board. From Feb 1 T rations issued based on DDT certificates of war necessity. All motorists must have tires inspected.

Mr and Mrs Frank Krametbauer Sr of Shiner Route 3 report six sons in military service with duties across Ireland Texas Camp Hood Randolph Field Camp Polk Hawaii and Ft Sill Also son in law Willie Veselka serves from the city stationed at Ft Sill Oklahoma and the family notes one son volunteered in 1935 and two volunteered in 1941
