Area Hermann Sons Officers To Be Installed January 9

GONZALES Louis R. Hoog Jr. of San Antonio will install seven area Hermann Sons lodge officers in Gonzales at 2 p.m. January 9 1977. Cemetery Association Meeting Set for January 14

Shiner Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on January 14 at 2 30 p m at Mrs Alois Kaspar s home Those who care for their lots those paying for annual care and those with permanent care are urged to attend Plans aim to avoid absences from the meeting and to review yearly reports and needs for the coming year Dues of 2 00 fund cemetery expenses The Reporter notes the goal to keep the Silent City clean and a credit to the community.

Man Charged In Liquor Store Robbery

Michael Caine, 27, is charged with armed robbery in the December 17 Matula No. 2 Liquor Store heist in Hallettsville. He faces $10,000 bond, will appear before Grand Jury, with Police crediting unified local and county agencies. The incident saw attendant Marcus Davenport threatened with a knife and about $40 taken from the store plus $250 from Davenport’s billfold.

Roznovsky Retires as County Commissioner in 1977

Steve Roznovsky of Shiner retires from his post as County Commissioner for precincts 3 and 4 effective January 1, 1977. He did not seek re election in the last Democratic Primary. Edwin Werner is named the new Commissioner for the Shiner Yoakum area. Roznovsky thanked the people for their confidence during his years of service.

Msgr. Charles V. Grahmann announces that proposals to the Campaign for Human Development must be postmarked by January 31, 1977. CHD, started in 1970 by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, funds self-help projects in poverty areas with about 40 million Americans affected.

The Shiner Rotary Club held its last 1976 luncheon at Casa Fiesta with Pres. Gus Nollkamper presiding and Henry Fietsam as secretary. Attendance was 100 percent for November, and several Rotarians and guests were noted. Nominating committee report proposed 1977 78 officers and board. Auld Lang Syne closed a successful year.

Dove Season Reopens Jan 1 After Brief Midseason Close

The dove hunting season reopened January 1, 1977 and will run through January 16 following a short mid-season closure. The initial open season began in September 1976.
