Shiner Hosts First Poultry Show Big Attendance and Strong Quality
The Shiner Poultry Show concluded with nearly 400 birds entered and an estimated 6 to 700 visitors. Fatal Crash At Crossing In Monroe Home Area
On Tuesday morning December 27 at about 9 30 a freight train backing into a Ford car at the Monroe crossing killed passenger Melvina Lewis. Driver George Hohlt and Cornelius Williams escaped with minor injuries while Melvina died after hospital transport. Melvina was a valued local servant and her funeral drew many whites in the community. The car was crushed and two men escaped, claiming they did not see or hear signals.
