The agency indicates sugar stamp 53 will be valid for ration use and expires soon as the 1947 sugar crop may allow an extra five pounds. If the supply is ample, regular ration totals could reach about 20 pounds, with canning sugar next. Officials expect at least 10 pounds per person if supply stays strong.
A lengthy list of social visits from Christmas to New Year includes families and relatives traveling to or hosting in Shiner Yoakum Hallettsville Gonzales Corpus Christi and nearby towns. Guests include Dr. and Mrs. Brosch Wichita Falls Mrs. Sedlmeyer and extended kin with several families from San Antonio Houston Dallas and Lima Peru also visiting or hosting relatives during the Yale vacation and holidays.
Evelyn Jane Tobola and Walter A. Raab exchanged vows at St Marys Catholic Church in San Antonio on December 26 1946. Rev Joseph P Sammon officiated. The couple plans a wedding trip before settling at 637 East Woodlawn Avenue San Antonio. The bride is a San Antonio Public School faculty member and alumna of Our Lady of the Lake College. the groom an accountant and Oak Grove School and Alamo City Business College graduate.
Miss Mildred Goesch daughter of Mr and Mrs W A Goesch of Shiner wed Fred H Rolke son of Mrs Martha Rolke of Houston in a double ring ceremony at Bering Memorial Methodist church Houston Rev Eugene Slater officiated. Attendants were Mrs Randolph Pfeil and a reception followed at the Barkley home with out of town guests from Shiner San Antonio and Floresville.
The Shiner City Cemetery Association will hold its first meeting for 1947 Friday January 3 at the City Library promptly at 3 o'clock. A large attendance is desired. New members are always welcome.
The High School P T A will meet on Thursday January 9 at four o clock in the High School. A record attendance is urged as they begin what is hoped to be their most successful year.

A sudden cold wave hit after a sunny Christmas week with freezing temperatures. Snow and sleet began Sunday night and persisted to New Year’s Eve. By Wednesday a blizzard feared since 1886 closed highways and airports. fatalities from risky travel were reported.
In a close contest the Shiner cagers fell 35 27 to the Gonzales Apaches at Gonzales. Shiner led by one at halftime before two first stringers fouled out. The teams meet again January 3 at Shiner Gym as Coach Max vows a close rematch.

Miss Rubye Pulkrabek married Gene Miculka Thursday morning at 8 in Shiner. The couple will live in Austin where Miculka attends pre dental school at the University of Texas. The bride is a St. Joseph High School and Baldwin Business College graduate. the groom served three years in the U S Army Air Force.
Congratulatory notice reports T Sgt Jim Raindl and his wife Louise Kasparek of Yoakum welcomed twin girls born in December at the local hospital. The couple’s first children, with the mother noted by her maiden name.
Mr and Mrs Joe Mraz of Yoakum announce the birth of a son at the local hospital on December 28. The infant weighs 8 pounds 3 ounces.
Mr and Mrs C W Sherry of Moulton announce the birth of their first child a boy at the local hospital on December 31 weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces The mother is Sophie Derrich of Shiner.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Hughs hosted Christmastide guests from their family circle Supt and Mrs T H McDonald of Sweeney and Ernie Powers among others in a brief social note from the local paper.
Lutheran Sunday School presented a Christmas program titled Child of Light at the High School Gym on December 22. The pageant and songs by younger and older members drew full crowds and a tree loaded with gifts brought joy to many children. The Sunday School freewill offering totaled 45 dollars.
Christmas vigil at Shiner Catholic Church drew record attendance as loudspeakers carried the Mass sermon and confessions to the worshippers. Father Leo said unprecedented number of visitors attended, with many taking part in the High Mass and Christmas rites inside the large church.
The Baptist Sunday School held a Christmas tribute during its pre Wednesday night program on December 18. Pastor Rev. J. E. Early delivered a brief spiritual message followed by carols and recitations by the youth. A Christmas tree and generous Claus closed the uplifting service.
The Christmas service titled Candles For Christmas featured a play Candle Light and carols, with violin numbers by Mrs. J. L. Mikulik and Mrs. Max L. Wolters. Santa Claus arrived as classes performed readings and poems, and the free will offering totaled 194.73 dollars.

Mr and Mrs Adolf Filip announce the engagement of their daughter Irene to Robert B Rowell son of Mr and Mrs Rose Rowell of Houston. The wedding is planned as a family event.
An all American choir including soldiers WACs and GIs sang Silent Night beside Father Josef Mohr's grave in Hallein Austria on Christmas Eve The performance was accompanied by Karl Adler of Salzburg using the same guitar as in 1918 keeping the hymn's memory alive.
