Sugar Stamp 53 Sets New Year's Ration Outlook

The agency indicates sugar stamp 53 will be valid for ration use and expires soon as the 1947 sugar crop may allow an extra five pounds. If the supply is ample, regular ration totals could reach about 20 pounds, with canning sugar next. Officials expect at least 10 pounds per person if supply stays strong.

Miss Mildred Goesch daughter of Mr and Mrs W A Goesch of Shiner wed Fred H Rolke son of Mrs Martha Rolke of Houston in a double ring ceremony at Bering Memorial Methodist church Houston Rev Eugene Slater officiated. Attendants were Mrs Randolph Pfeil and a reception followed at the Barkley home with out of town guests from Shiner San Antonio and Floresville.

A sudden cold wave hit after a sunny Christmas week with freezing temperatures. Snow and sleet began Sunday night and persisted to New Year’s Eve. By Wednesday a blizzard feared since 1886 closed highways and airports. fatalities from risky travel were reported.

The Baptist Sunday School held a Christmas tribute during its pre Wednesday night program on December 18. Pastor Rev. J. E. Early delivered a brief spiritual message followed by carols and recitations by the youth. A Christmas tree and generous Claus closed the uplifting service.

An all American choir including soldiers WACs and GIs sang Silent Night beside Father Josef Mohr's grave in Hallein Austria on Christmas Eve The performance was accompanied by Karl Adler of Salzburg using the same guitar as in 1918 keeping the hymn's memory alive.
