All business houses in Shiner will close on Monday March 2 to honor the centennial of Texas independence. The Centennial committee of the Business Men's Club with Edgar Wolters and Arno Wagener circulated a petition. it was quickly signed as citizens joined in the tribute.
Bill Jaroszewski elected president of the Shiner Agricultural Fair this year. He formerly lived in LaGrange, managed Temple Lumber Company, and was active in the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce. Fair dates are June 24 27, inviting local boosters to visit Shiner and extend a welcome.
Chas. Chrastecky filled his annual order for Mary Pradek of Buhl Idaho increasing it to size 16 shoes. The shoes measure 15.5 inches long and 5.5 inches wide with a weight of 3 pounds. Pradek is described as 6 feet 6 inches tall.

Olan Mittanek and his wife arrived Sunday after traveling from San Antonio.
The 34th anniversary of the Twentieth Century Club was observed at the Palace Cafe with a Texas centennial motif. Centerpieces featured the six flags of Texas, longhorns, bluebonnets, and Lone Star symbolism reflecting 1836 to 1936. Out of town guests included Miss Dorothy Vogt of San Antonio, Mrs. M. L. Price of Lubbock, and Miss Mabel Fuller of London.

E. J. Wesensky resumes operations at his place of business following a two week illness, marking his return to work and signaling continued activity in his professional duties.
Hallettsville observes a Sunday Christian Science service at 11 a.m. focusing on the Lesson Sermon with the Golden Text about a child born a son given and eternal dominion over Jacob's house. The service emphasizes Christ Jesus as the subject of the lesson read in all Christian Science churches.
Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Brieger included Mr. and Mrs. Francis Koch and family and Wm. Koch from San Antonio, visiting the Brieg ers for a social calling period.
Baptist church notes announce regular Wednesday prayer meetings at 7 30 PM and invite all to attend. Next Sunday is Sam Houston Day with Houston’s birthday anniversary noted as a centennial mindedness of Texas Baptists. Readers are encouraged to worship with open doors and thanks are given for well attended services last Sunday.
The regular meeting of the Business Men's Club will be held promptly at 7 o'clock tonight at the Royal Cafe.
Neighbors found the rent house on Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tietjen’s farm on fire last Wednesday afternoon. The Mutecek family, who lived there, were away and lost all belongings. The house could not be saved but barns and outbuildings were saved through neighbor effort. Mr. Tietjen had some insurance on the house.
The Pep Squad of Shiner High will hold a cake sale at the Blohm building on Saturday afternoon starting at 1 o clock. Proceeds go to Club activities and school spirit events.
A candidate in Lavaca County seeks the office of commissioner for Precincts 3 and 7. He pledges to build permanent or all weather roads with local farmers and businesses, allocate road funds between maintenance and new construction, and work year round. Headquarters are in Shiner for contact.

A mass meeting for parents interested in forming a Boy Scout group drew poor attendance with only one mother present alongside business leaders. About forty boys attended ready to participate, with signs of strong commitment. Organizers expect the scouts will form soon despite the tepid turnout.
The Gazette reports funeral services for Matej Pesek from the home of Joe Pesek set for Thursday morning at 8 30 with Catholic Church services at 9 30. He was 73 years old. A revised obituary sketch will appear next week.
Beginning the first of March all gas bills will be paid in the office of City Secretary. The office is being moved due to changes in the Shiner Electric Shop. Mrs. Oran Davis will be in charge of collections as usual. Southwest Gas Utilities Corp. (of Oklahoma).
The 1936 Texas Almanacs will be off the press in Dallas about mid March. The Gazette invites readers to place preorders and book their copies.
The Comanches reached the district finals at La Grange after beating Dime Box 42 23 with Heger and Sofka scoring 11 each. In the semis Shiner beat Weimar 23 17, led by Baca's 8. Cimrhanzel and Novak anchored defense. La Grange edged the Comanches 26 24 as Cimrhanzel and Voelkel tied for scoring honors. Novak added 7. The team displayed fight, sportsmanship, and pride in defeat.

A meeting of the Lavaca County Farm Debt Adjustment Committee under the Resettlement Administration will be at the courthouse Friday February 28 1936 at 130 PM.
