Rudolph Kalisek Dies in Wyoming
Rudolph C. Kalisek, 19, son of John Kalisek of Wied, died at Fort Warren Wyoming Sunday February 15 after pneumonia. He had served four months at Camp Warren CCC. Remains arrived by train and lay in Eschenburg Funeral Parlor. Funeral at Sweet Home Catholic church with burial in Sweet Home cemetery officiated by Rev G Kuratko. Pallbearers were six relatives and friends. Survived by father and brothers Emil Henry and John Jr. of Wied.

World Day of Prayer attendance praised at Shi ner Baptist
Attendance at the World Day of Prayer service at Shi ner Baptist Church last Friday night was good despite illness. A substitute speaker delivered the program after the original speaker fell ill. Some participants were forced to take other parts, but all left glad they attended. A $15 offering was sent to United China Relief. The program chair thanks Mrs. Joe Hughs, the choir and musicians, and all helpers, urging strong cooperation for next year.

Edward Schaefer, one of Shiner's oldest settlers, died at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday after several weeks of illness. A native of the old country, he settled near Hallettsville and later in Shiner, Lavaca County. Funeral Mass was held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Shiner Catholic Church with Rev. E. Bily officiating. Pallbearers included M. E. Wolters, Eli Wolters, Fred Cook, Frank P. Albrecht, Ross Hoffmann, and Paul Spies. Surviving are six daughters, one son Edward Jr. who died earlier, 28 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The family and Gazette extend heartfelt sympathy.
