Mrs Alvina Ehlers Rites Held After Lutheran Beloved

Obituary notes the passing of Mrs Alvina Ehlers born 1862 in Haw Creek Texas widow of Louis Ehlers. She died after a brief illness just before their 49th wedding anniversary. Survived by ten children and nineteen grandchildren with siblings and many friends attending funeral at the Lutheran church with community tribute. Henry Balusek family visited Monday.

Marvels of Radio Echo From Papal Broadcast Success

The Papal radio program completed on February 12 met with vast listener approval and will be followed by frequent Vatican City broadcasts. Messages from America, England, Brazil and other nations were heard, with sea reception aboard the Bremen liner 1500 miles from New York. Within four hours Vatican telegraph stations received 400 telegrams and cables. After two years of experiments this broadcast marks the era’s greatest international transmission, credited to Senatore Marconi.

Twentieth Century Club Meeting Recalls 1914 Mexico Intervention

On February 19 the Twentieth Century Club met at City Library to discuss Modern Mexico United States intervention in 1914 Villa campaign and the last five presidents. Plans for next year's study course were set and the annual club entertainment with escorts was announced for February 26 at Mrs Welhausen's home at 7:30 p.m.

Passing of E. J. Mair in Shiner and Crowley life

Obituary notes Prof. E J Mair born 1867 in Huntington Indiana taught in Middle Creek and Shiner marking the first public school principal. He lived in Baton Rouge and Crowley Louisiana with a postal career, taught at LSU briefly, died February 16 1931 in Crowley after influenza and pneumonia. Yoakum Bank Creditors Sue State Examiner

An injunct ion suit filed in DeWitt County district court by Dr. Walter Shropshire and others seeks to halt James Shaw banking commissioner of Texas and his agent from liquidating Yoakum State Bank assets. Plaintiffs claim bank assets exceeded liabilities at closing, deposits have drawn 25 percent, and seek a court appointed receiver. Hearing set for Cuero on March 7.

Funeral listed for Frank E. Mewes this afternoon

Frank E. Mewes, 72, died overnight after a long illness. The funeral was announced for this afternoon from the residence of Arthur Rabe. Mr. Mewes, who had accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mewes on their return to Kingsville Monday, was not called until later in the day when his death was learned. A fuller notice will follow next week. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Busch and their Gonzales son visited relatives Sunday.

Shiner to Broadcast Michna Band Program Sunday

Michna's Bohemian Band will air Sunday from 1:00 to 1:30 p m over Station KTLA San Antonio on 1290 kilocycles. James V Michna directs the band and the City garage. Emil L Balusek sponsors the program with W E Kingen of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce speaking. Tune in at 1:00 p m next Sunday. note hour change.

Thirty Towns Back Gas Rate Cut Move

Abilene Texas February 18 recommendations that West Texas cities adopt forceful means to obtain gas rate reductions were approved unanimously by representatives from more than 30 towns. The plan calls for a permanent organization to drive the program, seeking competition in natural gas distribution and, if needed, bond together to build municipal pipelines or pursue municipal ownership.
