A baby boy weighing 7 pounds 14 ounces was born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mueller and named August William. In Hallettsville, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Kutach welcomed a son born Sunday morning. Mrs. Kutach is Agnes Strauss formerly of Shiner.
The mayor of Shiner Texas Lavaca County orders a municipal election for two Aldermen to serve two years. Election on April 5 1938 at the new City Hall with presiding judge F R Mergenthaler. Polls run 8 am to 6 pm. Candidates must file ten days before the election.
City of Shiner announces a prohibition on riding bicycles and skating on sidewalks in the business district due to accident prevention concerns. The move assigns responsibility to the city for safety and directs pedestrians and riders to use designated paths and sidewalks where allowed.

The 10 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Machacek died Sunday at the local hospital and was laid to rest Monday in Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Bily conducting services. Survivors include the parents and grandparents Mrs. Peter Machacek Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heidecker and many relatives. Friends are asked to accept heartfelt sympathy and prayers.

The Shiner Public Schools board unanimously re elected Sup t T H McDonald for another year at its February meeting. He has led five years, expanding the high school faculty and establishing a popular Home Economic department. The board notes savings of over 18000 by refunding bonded indebtedness and cites continued school growth through faculty and trustees cooperation.

The Columbus Weimar Schulenburg Eagle Lake Shiner and La Grange chapters met in Columbus Tuesday night with 128 members in attendance to honor the Worthy Grand Matron Mrs Norma D Allen and other grand officers. Mrs E J Kempe and Mrs Ernest Hajek were named on the staff. attendees from Shiner included Mesdames Rudie Valenta E G Buske Ola Garrett Isabel Thulemeyer Ella E Lane and Mr W C Schmidt. A fine program followed by the Grand Matron’s address, then a banquet and social hour ended the session.
The Dreyer and Shiner Baptist Churches organized Womans Missionary Societies and report good attendance and growing enthusiasm. The Dréyer group meets Thursday March 3 and the Shiner group on Monday March 7. The note invites newcomers to attend, study, and worship, promising a broader view of church work and weekly home meetings for the next several months.
About six hundred six people attended the Yoakum Chamber of Commerce banquet at Yoakum High School gymnasium on Thursday evening February 17. Ceo P Barron, Yoakum Public Schools superintendent, was installed as Chamber president for the coming year. Julian Montgomery, state highway engineer, spoke on future highways over the next quarter century and listed attendees from Shiner including W C Schmidt and others.
Emil L Balusek and George Fiedler spent Thursday of last week in San Antonio. Mr and Mrs Herbert Fiedler and their daughter from Moulton spent Sunday at the George Fiedler home.

Shiner Mayor Ad Richter proclaims Texas Week from February 21 through March 5, urging citizens to fly the flag daily, observe educational programs, plant trees, and promote literacy, history study, and state pride. Comanche Squaws finish basketball season with a 39 to 10 victory against St Josephs Academy on Monday night at Yoakum. The team endured two seasons without a defeat, with the closest scare coming against Prairie Lea in a tied game where a free shot decided it. In a return game at Prairie Lea the Squaws won 36 to 9 as Prairie Lea managed only nine points. New players are to join, including Lillian Barros Helen Steffens and Mildred Goesch, while a strong reserve group will continue the program next year.
