Obituary of Mrs. Otlie Wick in Shiner area church rites

Mrs. Otlie Wick died Tuesday February 14 at 68 after a six month illness from Brights disease. Funeral February 16 at the Catholic Cemetery with Rev Father Wolf officiating. Born near Jeslau Germany she later lived in Berlin with first husband Gee Degenharat and moved to America in 1901 near Hallettsville. She married Frank Wick Sr about 99 years ago and was a leading member of the St Elizabeth society in Shiner. A large turnout from Hallettsville attended the funeral.

Twentieth Century Club Admits New Member in 1922 Session

The February meeting of the Twentieth Century Club was held out of order with Mrs Blo Wolters as fourteen members replied to the call. After minutes were read, A Tobins application was approved by unanimous vote, making him a member. Mrs O A Brieger led the lesson with help from Mesdames OC CO Amsler Elo Walters and Wm Wendtland Jr. Visitors included Miss Ione McIntyre and Miss Louise Morgenroth. Adjournment set for March 2, 1922 with Mrs H H Striebeck hosting.

Valentine Party at Kempe Home Delights Guests

A St Valentine gathering at Miss Alma and Miss Selma Kempe’s home featured Hearts games with three tables. O B Runk won a candy prize for high score, Ernestine Mergenthaler received a Broken Heart, and heart shaped cookies along with cocoanut cake and coffee were served. Guests included Martha Waederlich of Moulton, Anna Bozka, Carrie Valenta, Mayme Merseburger, Valasta Mari, Leonide Schuhman, C J Waldrep, W C Schmidt, Hy Lee, Biz Runk, W Reichardt, Arthur Kasper.

Death of Mr Wm Janecek at Guadalupe near Victoria

Mr Wm Janecek died suddenly of typhoid pneumonia on Tuesday aged 87. The body was brought to Shiner by train and interred February 15 in the S P J Stt cemetery. Survived by wife five children mother and four brothers and three sisters. The bereavement is mourned by many friends.

Mr. Joe Raab Dead at 54 in Runge Nordheim Area

Mr. Joe Raab aged 54 died at his Bolling farm home on Tuesday morning February 14 after months of ill health. The body was taken to Shiner for burial on Wednesday. Raab had farmed in the Runge and Nordheim community for many years, moving from Shiner.

Royal Holland Bell Ringers at Liberty Theatre Program

The Liberty Theatre presents Coming The Six Royal Holland Bell Ringers and Musicians with a regular motion picture program on Tuesday February 28. Ticket prices are 10 and 25 cents. Mrs 8 B Holchak is visiting her parents in Nordheim this week, staying with family and catching up on local matters during her stay in the community.

Mrs. E. B. Kessler Dies After Illness

Mrs. E H B Kessler died at 11:00 Tuesday at the home of Gus Russell in this city after a brief illness. Her condition worsened Tuesday morning despite medical care, and she passed peacefully. The funeral was held Thursday in City Cemetery with a large gathering of friends and relatives.

Fire destroys W. H. Meyer home in Yoakum

A $10,000 blaze struck the two story residence of W. H. Meyer on Yoakum's southern edge. Neighbors spotted smoke and alerted the fire department but efforts failed due to a distant fire plug at Gus Rinn's house. Insurance coverage placed at about $6,000.

Lavaca County to Issue $60,000 in Tick Eradication Warrants

Commissioners' Court on February 13 ordered the county to issue sixty thousand dollars in warrants to fund winding into effect the Tick Eradication Law, with the order prepared and filed by the county clerk in this court.

Highway Bond Bids for La Vacas County Opened

Bids totaling 196000 dollars for Highway Bonds in Road District No 2 La Vacas County were received by the commissioners court yesterday afternoon. Six bid firms from across the United States competed. Taylor Ewart Co offered par and accrued interest with 12846 dollars in commissions and expenses, effectively about 89.58 percent of par. Court had not yet accepted a bid at press time.

Freshmen Party Hosted at City Hot House

A freshmen gathering hosted by Malle Hagemeister at the city Hot 1 on Saturday night featured hearts, punch, cake and sandwiches. Games followed and a green glow attracted uninvited seniors.
