Moving earth hole near Shiner draws Gazette editors

The Gazette editor with Albert Berckenhoff and Anton Polak visited the old Gellhorn place last Sunday in Polak’s auto to view a remarkable moving earth hole. The feature spans about half a mile in length and 400 yards in width with 20 foot depths and steep sides. Visitors scramble to the bottom among billowy 6 to 10 foot mounds over roughly ten acres. The clay soil crumbles easily underfoot, its mysterious activity likely tied to the clay. The site lies about eight miles west of Shiner on the west side of a large hill and is worth a visit.
