Comanches Win County Basketball Championship

The Shiner Comanche Braves captured the County tournament at Hallettsville on February 14 and 15. They routed Moulton 47–14 on Friday, defeated Komensky 26–7 on Saturday morning, and beat Hallettsville 25–22 in the final to claim the county title.

Coldest of Season Hits Local Area This Week

A severe cold wave swept the vicinity from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning. Temperatures plunged to 14 degrees, marking the coldest reading of the season and prompting residents to bundle up and take extra precautions against the frigid air.

Lutheran Ladies Aid Holds Delayed Monthly Meeting

The Lutheran Ladies Aid met in regular session at 2 30 PM after a one week delay for paint to dry on the church. Rev Schuetze led scripture in German and English, welcomed guests, notes on illness, two new members welcomed, a song by Rev and Mrs Schuetze with Mrs Dierkson on piano, and a closing prayer followed by fellowship in Luther Hall. The next meeting is scheduled for March 4 at 2 30 PM.

Three Vehicles In Wreck On Hallettsville Highway

A late night crash near the Hallettsville highway underpass involved a Buick out of gas being pushed by a Model A and a V eight car. A Herder truck following the V eight struck the rear causing extensive damage to all vehicles. Driver Allen Stark sustained minor injuries. other names unavailable.

Narrow escape ends in wreck for Shiner couple

Mr and Mrs Ed Nollkamper of Shiner were driving a V-8 when they barely escaped a severe crash. Their car was a total wreck. Mrs Nollkamper received medical attention in Shiner and returned home the next morning.

Mrs Rosanna Howard Burned In Kitchen Fire

Friday evening about 6 o'clock fire crews were called to the home of Mrs Rosanna Howard where a large skillet of grease burst into flames. The blaze was extinguished before arrival but Mrs Howard sustained serious burns to her left arm and face after she grabbed the skillet and tried to reach the door, the flames burning through her sweater and dress sleeve from hand to elbow.

More than one hundred applications have been filed with the local Post for bonuses totaling 59,299.48 dollars. Additional applications were filed elsewhere and many could not be counted due to corrections and bad weather on Sunday. Final regional totals are expected to approach 75,000 dollars.

Mrs. Howard sustained severe burns to her right hand while rescuing her daughter Beth as a fire or calamity occurred. Beth and Mrs. Howard received minor and prompt medical care, with Mrs. Howard later unable to return to work and briefly carried home from the High School.

Woman Injured Crossing Highway by Passing Driver

Mrs. A. J. Bednar suffered severe injuries when struck by a motorist while crossing the highway in front of her home Sunday around 5 P M. Her left arm was lacerated to the bone, the lower lip torn, and stitches were needed inside the mouth. She received tetanus serum and was moved from hospital to home after initial treatment. condition reported as improving by Tuesday.
