A Shiner husband midnigh tly tried to soothe his wife's neuralgia with what he believed to be chloroform. He applied carbolic acid from the label, felt a burning sting, then washed with warm water to prevent harm. His quick check averted serious injury.

John Harmons, a 50 year old tramp, jailed in Sacramento after confessing he recovered over 20,000 dollars from the Overland Express train robbery. He says he loaned money to business men and lived well on proceeds including 2000 dollars from a German Savings bank and 5000 in securities. He found the money buried near Sacramento, while the robbers took more than 50,000 from Wells Fargo.
