Anton Kubena Funeral Rites Friday 9 A M

Funeral services for Anton Kubena 80 will be held Friday at 9 a m from Eschenburg Funeral Parlor then to Shiner Catholic Church. He died at his son Louis Kubena's home in Midway at 105 a m Wednesday February 18. Rosary will be recited this afternoon at 730 p m. Obituary will be published next week.

Nail Pulling Club Organized by Methodist Women

The Methodist Church ladies form the nail pullers club as they recall old quilting bees and rag carpet tacketing. Men acquire surplus wartime buildings, travel in groups to dismantle them, while church men work at Camp Swift with contractor Sonntag. The ladies held their first nail pulling session Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. Anton Mueck in Yoakum

Funeral services for Mrs. Selina Rice Mueck of Shiner were held today at 2 p m from Buffington Chapel Yoakum with Rev J J Sloan officiating. Burial in Alexander Cemetery Stratton. She died Tuesday at Yoakum hospital aged 57 years 6 months 21 days. She was born July 26 1890 near Yoakum maiden name Rice. Survived by husband Anton Mueck son Frank two dozen relatives including five brothers and one sister.

Forty Two Veterans Attend Fat Stock Show

Daniel W. Nedbalek led Class III veterans on a chartered bus to the Houston Fat Stock Show with a long list of attendees from classes I II and III. Thirty seven rode the bus while five traveled in their own car.

Shiner Citizens Attend Wide Road Meet in Lavaca County

About 25 to 30 business leaders traveled from Shiner to Hallettsville for a county wide meeting on the feasibility of a Lavaca County road bond issue. Officials from the county and local chambers discussed rural road and bridge improvements to handle growing traffic and school bus travel. A survey was left to the County Commissioners, with no survey possible yet due to impassable roads.

Lavaca County Fat Stock Show March 3 in Hallettsville

Lavaca County 4-H Club and F F A boys and girls hold their annual fat stock show on March 3. Animals must be on show grounds ready by 9:00 AM with judging at 1:00 PM and the auction sale slated for 8:00 PM. Fat steers lambs and hogs will be shown with Stud Barnes of the Extension Service as judge.

V. F. W. narrowly defeated Rotary 39 to 38 at the local gym Tuesday night. Herman Bohuslav led the victors as high point scorer with clutch baskets from various spots.

Country Store Operetta Dates By Catholic Women

Parish council met February 10 to plan a Country Store set for March 6 at Mr Roe der's Butane Store. Committees arranged final plans and donations as 100 names appeared on the contribution drive. Mrs Strong reported clothing for the needy and a new box is being prepared.

Valenta Earns Dual Honors In Photo Contests

Houston Post photographer Caroline Valenta, 23, wins two national awards for her photo "Daddy, Daddy" at the Miami International Press Photographers show, chosen best in feature class and best in show. The image previously won Britannica Book of the Year feature photo prize in 1946 and helped win AP Texas features top prize. Life magazine used many of her photos including the Texas City disaster lead image.

Hearing Postponed by Weather for Railroad Case

President Lee Sedlmeyer of the Chamber of Commerce A H Kasper Rotary Basil B Bell and E J Pohler attended a weather hit hearing before the State Railroad Commissioners about ending passenger trains from Waco to Yoakum. About 75 were present and many wires urged the trip could not be made due to sleet covered highways. The hearing was postponed with a new date to be set.
